While I never even SAW one of those road racers, I did get a few chances to spend some time aboard one of these 250 Jawa ISDT bikes and they sure had some power! 8) ;)

beat me to it again Sam, Bill Ivy a hero of mine, still think of him whenever I see Phil Read at shows, he still seems an arrogant #!$%

Bill the Jawa gave 70 bhp @ 13,000 rpm (in the write up they say almost 80 @ 13,500) through a 7 speed gearbox & weighed 122kg.
Info came from Nov/Dec Classic Racer magazine.
On a similar vein the latest issue has the CZ 350 V4 four stroke racer from the same period.

I'm diggin the Amal carbs with remote reservoirs!!!

in the latest photos the Amal GP's seem to have been replaced by what look like Keihin carbs.

Hey scunny, did you catch the info posted by Malcolm?

"70-80hp @ 13,000-13,500 rpm through a 7sp trans and @ a weight of 122kg. (BTW, what does 122kg convert to in the way of lbs? :-[ )   Sounds like a truly incredible machine! 8) ;)

And a big Thank you to Sam and Malcolm for some info on this one  and also to Malcolm for some extra details on the carbs. ;)

Thanks for that Malcolm. That must have been a heck of a feeling to be on that bike, zipping around the track on it and feel that engine spinning at 13,000-13,500rpms! 8) ;)

Sam. ;)

It was a aluminium cage from a needle bearing from a bigend that gave up, and eventually killed Bill.  :'( The factory was not allowed to use, better, material from the 'west'. But do not forget that either Jawa or CZ, not sure about that am getting older I quess, who has the most patents in the motorcycle bizz. Factory like Suzuki had to 'steel' Ernst Degner to have him reveal a lot of 2-stroke secrets.

Rob.

Oh... Yeah.... Birthday... uh.... I wasn't really thinking about that, at the time. ::)  Now that you mention it, I'll be eligible for Social Security then. :-\ Doesn't seem that long ago that my Granddad was 62, now he's gone, my Dad has reached and past that age (he's 83) and now, I'm hitting that age. :( Dad say's you are only as old as you feel and, sometimes, that's not much of a consolation. ::)
Oh well, might as well accept it and move on, eh? ??? ;)

Once you accept it, life is getting better. After some major health issue's 10 years ago, lying in hospital I realised what is really important in life. My family and my bikes and to h..... with the rest.
