I've Got A 63' CL72, But Not As Rare As This One!
« on: February 12, 2009, 04:30:02 PM »

Never heard of a CL72 with an aluminum gas tank, but here one is!
      Along with the details.

      "1963 Honda CL72 250 Scrambler
1963 Honda CL 72 250 Scrambler. Very rare, only 400 of these were made in 63 with a red frame. Also has very rare factory option alloy tank. Numbers match! Fantastic looking and running machine."

Isn't it though! 8) Yeah, the CL72 (250cc) and I think the early CL77 (305cc) had straight pipes with baffles slipped into each pipe and held in with a single bolt in each one. Then, there was a short muffler that had 2 inlets and 1 outlet, that was slipped over the pipes and bolted to the frame.

Great find Bill, I had a set of pipes like those for mine back in the 60's but I don't remember them bending out around the dampers. I thought they were made in the UK by 'Read Titan' a Honda dealer/customizer back then, perhaps they copied the Honda design. Sadly I didn't take many photos of it back then  :'(
While on this subject I found this on Ebay UK http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230329738782&indexURL=0#ebayphotohosting

Malcolm, that is some nice CB72 you posted. Mine was a 66' and was black and silver, when I got it. Great bike. 8) ;)
