Running Rich

Today, I finally took the bike out for a drive. Drove over 35 miles for the first run and boy did I have fun..pulled strong to 90mph.

Runs pretty dang strong. However, it runs extremely rich. The spark plugs are DRY black on all cylinders, not wet..exhaust sputs out unburnt gasoline though...not oil, but gasoline.

The bike idles, runs, brakes shifts great...I am really excited that I brought her back to life.

What really makes me mad today is that I just got my paint job done, didn't see any holes when I stripped it down and there is a tiny hole that completely messed up my paint job, it leaked everywhere and on my side covers :(. O well..got to get that fixed.

Check your choke adjustment Hun!
Slacken the cable with a screw driver (its just above the carbs) enough to let the chokes fall open, I'm guessing they are partly closed still thus causing your excessive gas usage and the fluffy plugs.
Once you are sure the chokes are wide open then tighten the holding screw that secures the choke cable.
OK it might not be this but I like my hunch and it wont cost you a cent to humour me. ;D

Clean filter?  Airscrews where they should be?  Can you move the needles in those carbs?  maybe move them down a notch or two?  Have you over-jetted?  Are you running an exhaust baffle?  Seems like a LOT of extra gas if it comes out unburned and without backfiring.... maybe timing is suspect???

My bike's PO overjetted and never changed the air filter, I found quite a bit of carbon built up around the exhaust valves and ports, it should feel like I've ported the engine without all of that crap in the way...

Rode it for a longer time today..pulled the plugs..same deal...black, dry plugs

Brand new filter, stock jets. Air screws are 1 turn out. I put in a baffle/reducer into the bikes..PO gutted it before.

How do you move the needles down?
