Tank emblem removal
« on: March 17, 2009, 06:41:07 AM »
I know there was a posting about this but I can't find it.  Anyway, how do you get the emblems off the tank and side covers?  The fiche shows what it calls nuts behind the emblem, but I don't see any tiny screw heads or anything.   BTW it's a 71 CB500!  Thanks.

its not really a nut. They just stick in. Get some fishing line and run it behind and pull it off.

The tank emblems are just a push fit so you can ease them off with a flat bladed knife.

The side panel emblems are held on by three spring clips which must be removed carefully or they will break off the little pins on the side panel.

Good post, I have a 71 cb500 I'm about to do the same thing to.  Also, has anyone had good luck reapinting their OE badges?  If so any pics?  I'm thinking of doing a custom job, so just curious.....

BTW on the 71 cb500's, are there just two pin holes for the emblem pins to rest in or is there something else?  I may fill mine in and run it w/o badges if it's not too crazy a weld/bondo job...

I just finished my 350F side cover logos. mask, cut, rattle can. then a coating of clear.
They turned out pretty sharp.  the cut out of the paintable areas was a B!@T<H!

I will do this to my tank emblems, but once off and painted, what adhesive is best for re-applying them to the tank?

Thanks for the tips everyone.  Now I am wondering how you get the things back on.  Is there a trick to getting them flush or will they naturally fit that way?  Do you use some kind of adhesive?
