anyone have pics of a modified stock front fender?
« on: March 30, 2009, 03:35:03 PM »
id like remount and modify my stock front fender for my cafe. i keep getting sprayed in the face by snowmelt on the streets and Denver County law requires one. does the spray usually come from the front or rear of the front wheel? id like to cut it down at least 5" from the front of it and some in the rear.
does any one have a pic of a fender thats cut down and (at least somewhat) functional?

The spray that gets in your face and all over your jacket comes off the top of the tire.  Unfortunately, even just cutting off 3 or 4" from the front of the fender will allow it to get by.  You need the whole thing if you want it to do the job it was designed for.

I cut off a few inches from the fender on my 550 because it was smashed up in the front, and I get sprayed anytime the road is wet.  If you want to see how it looks, open the bike-pics link in my signature line.  It's the black 1976 CB550K.

I had a seriously bobbed sportster and I removed the front fender.  It never really bothered me but at some point I realized that I had this feeling of fine spray on my face constantly while riding the bike.  Dirt I guess.

Chris, I've come to the conclusion that the bobbed fenders are what make your bike look so damned cool.  My orange K2 has basically the same parts as your bike, 4 into 1, drag bars, blah blah blah.  Yours has mine beat on cool though.

Thought you'd like to know :D

its blurry... but the only purpose it actually serves is a slight fork-brace and a cool factor ;) If you want it functional... do not cut it. end of story.
