Could be different problems, but it sounded to me as if something hit the spokes a half dozen times during the video.  I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with the spokes themselves; rather, whatever is loose is hitting them on occasion and nothing good will come of that.  Might be a loose wheel weight.

Well, got my new JT sprockets & RK heavy duty chain. I adjusted the clutch & taped the center stand tight. Weird sound seems to be gone now! Everything put back together, take it out, chain comes back loose. Stretch I guess. Readjust, then take it out of town on some back roads.

I'm coming down a little two lane highway behind a dump truck. He took a wide turn with NO signal! I lock up the rear & finally lay it over, probably doing about 35. I'm missing some palm meat & the skin on the back of my arm, but I'm OK, thank Jesus!!

Bike dumped a lot of oil from somewhere while on it's side, but started right up. Damage is very scratched up stator & foot peg, and broken center stand & clutch lever. The lever still engages, so I made it home.

Stay safe everyone!

Cripes!

Glad you're relatively ok!

Secondarily I'm glad your noise is gone, but the new damage is sure a bummer.

what protection were you wearing ? gloves, armoured jacket etc -

but glad to hear you are ok - gotta watch everything and anticipate every eventuality when riding - you do sometimes relax and then some dipstick ruins your day...

Glad you're okay, sorry about the bike.   Some people have no sense in the world.   A reminder to all of us, it can happen any time, be prepared.

Thanks for the support guys. By the time I got up and fetched the bike he was long gone. The guy didn't even stop, and I find it hard to believe you wouldn't notice a motorcycle wiping out behind you!

As for protection, I'm embarassed to say none, and I ALWAYS go out in my leather jacket at a minimum. I had just got that chain on and just thought of it as a short run to check on things. But that's no excuse, it was a low cost lesson, I could have been hurt much worse and I definetly wont go out in a t shirt & jeans ever again, even on a 'short run'.

I was taught the following mantra

ATGATT - say it loud 3 times before you get on the bike

it stands for

Ouch mate that's gotta hurt.
My first ride when I got my 650 going I only meant to ride around the block and ended up doing 20 miles. ;D

It looks like you lost a lot of meat in your biceps! ;)

Just kidding, glad to hear you're alright. How's the bike doing?

You probably didn't lose any oil, it's more likely fuel from the carbs.

ATGATT I agree :D.  It's always when you've just put new parts on, and that's when you most need it cause who knows how the new parts will react.  Case in point, I replaced the brakes on my dirtbike last summer.  It was getting late, didn't think I had time to run in and grab the helmet.  Figured I'd go for a quick ride, shot down my mile-long gravel driveway.  Grabbed a handfull of my brand new EBC brakes (both sets of pads and rotors).  Bike stopped great.  Shot a rooster-tail in the gravel, headed back towards my house.  Got up to about 30ish and was really feelin it.  Stepped on the back brake in the front yard (maybe 20 feet from my own door) and the back wheel locked up and the bike high-sided in a split second.  Ate handlebar

You can see the two impressions made by the throttle bolts, and the long split from the bars.  A half inch higher and I'da been spitting out all my front teeth.  So, bottom line is All The Gear All The Time, ESPECIALLY when you've just put new parts on.

Oh, and I'd just started my first engineering job and I had to show up on my third day in my suit and tie with THAT chin :D

haha, if anyone asks about my puny biceps that'll be my excuse.

That's some nasty chin damage, I'm guessing you ended up with a scar? Way to make a good first impression at the new job. Last summer I breifly switched jobs and got POR-15 all over my hands right before. It went down hill from there.

glad to hear you are ok...and about that chain issue...I had the exact same thing going on with mine...when I would down shift and there was a nice metallic rattle it was actually kinda scary I had no idea what was going on...but when i got it home I noticed the chain was slapping a cross member on my frame and actually cut into it almost half way! anyway since its a custom frame I just welded on a chain roller and problem solved...except I have a huge gouge in a piece of my frame.

I had a big rig right in front of me blow a tire on the highway...luckily i ducked a HUGE piece of tire! probably would have taken my head off! Those big things are no joke...they dont have the visibility or the maneuverability of smaller vehicles...best to treat them all as if they have never been on a road before.

i treat ALL cagers like they've never been on the road before... or rather that they don't know i exist. most of the time they don't see you, let alone drive safely around you. big rigs i just plain avoid. i've been cut off plenty of times by cars with "share the road" stickers on the back.  ::)

I've survived this long in part because I treat all other vehicle drivers as if they are actively trying to kill me/harm me.

Statistically, this is actually true for a small % of the driving population.  But, there aren't any truth in labeling laws for such drivers.  And, you only have to encounter that small percentage once, for the game to be permantently over.  It's my job to thwart their dastardly goals.

Guys, I hate to hear of someone dropping their bike to avoid something worse and roadrash sucks !, but I don't care to remind y'all as an 'old guy' that the mantra for bike riding is ' I am invisible to other road users ', ride with this in your head and it doesn't matter what anyone does..you already know that they will turn/ come out/ xchange lane/stop dead in front of you...It's kept me alive for 53 years...just my 2c worth....and get used to it and you can ride as fast as you can ' hold' this discipline
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

TT, when I told my grandpa who has been riding with no accidents for about 30 years, that is exactly the first thing he said - ride as if every car on the road is actively trying to kill you.

I actually have a safety question for you guys, when stopped at a stop sign/light in traffic how do you center your bike behind the vehicle in front of you? I usually try to end up behind the passenger side of the car so if I do get hit from behind it might not sadwich me or throw me into oncomming traffic. Is there a 'safer' spot in stopped traffic?
