Yes, the outside finish on the RC block is pretty rough. But that only means it'll look so much nicer once polished...

Well I'll be talking to my friend next week about this. I'll bring a stock CB cylinder and an RC cylinder and see what he thinks.

Mike. Sounds like a great project. Is this cylinder streetable?  RR

We may need to sticky this post next to those 1000cc pistons from APE.  :)

Price may be an object, but that would be a killer combo, don't you think?

The piston deal is on. Check out that thread.

Mick

We are using a sleeve that won't break thru into the air passage on a stock block, that why no 1055s.

What size cylinders will the big block have Mike?
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Any size you want is my expectation Terry. Sleeves or no sleeves....whatever somebody wants. I'd have the bore roughed out withen .040 or so with the final work done by the owner

Thanks Mike, what's the advantage of a big block? I am just going to bore out my stock block to take the 72 mm sleeves for my 1060 cc pistons and weld up where the mill breaks through the air gaps, so I'm guessing the big block will take bigger slugs again? I guess the biggest problem then is the head will let the whole plot down due to it's restrictive design, it's a pity you can't adapt a big port DOHC head on to it, now that'd really make it get up and go!;D

If your doing a bunch of welding you may as well weld up stud holes in crankcase and reposition studs further apart to fit DOHC top end.
Wouldnt worry too much about breakthrough into air gaps.
In my experience, as long as base is sealed, it doesn't leak (maybe 'sweat' a bit)
The limiting factor on boring is always stud spacing, gotta clamp it down some how.  ;D

PJ, have you or do you know of anyone who has successfully fitted a DOHC head to the SOHC motor?  Thanks!  RR

Sorry, I don't know anyone.
Friend of a friend in Britain was doing a Kawasaki top end on one but he would never say how or which Kawa he was using.
It was going to be about 900cc.
I think possibly a bored GPZ750 top end on SOHC CB motor?
Why?
...because he could

Hmmmnnn, that got the old memory box thinking about something I read in a magazine many years ago about someone grafting a Boldor 900 top end onto an SOHC CB750, from memory, he actually cut the crankcase "deck" out of the rolladoor cases and welded them into a set of CB750 SOHC cases. I've got an old set of cases here, I might have to go looking for a CB900F! ;D

Finally...some free time. This block is definitely achievable. Each block would start out as basically a 50lb piece of billet. Bore and deck height are up to the customer. Bores can be roughed out to .002/.003 undersize for piston or sleeve. Fins can be up to 1" long. A plated bore would greatly improve cooling and improve overall strength of the block. The block can have an oring groove cut into it as well. If I can get 5 orders orders price will be 1,200.00 each. Less than 5 can be done but the cost will increase. The CAD design can be sent directly to Cometic Gasket for construction of a head and base gasket.
All design and machine work will be handled by a very well respected individual with years of private CNC operation ownership. He is an avid motorcyclist and has handled many motorcycle industry applications and other far more advanced machining projects for the automotive racing industry as well.
 Hey....the guy owns a Drysdale. ;)
Anyway there is some info. It would take some ime to measure for the design as several case tops, cylinders and heads will have to be measured etc anybody interested please drop me a PM for further info.

Hi Mike, if less than 5 orders is more expensive, does that mean 10 or more would be cheaper.
I would absolutely love one but $1200.00 is just a little to expensive with current exchange rates.

I need to get further down the road on the 900 you're doing the head for on my rebuild before I spend that cash on the 1000 for the chop. Do you have a time frame in mind?
