The things that these guys would build was just unreal. This was back before track safety tech was real serious about was people could race. It's hard to believe that the 200mph barrier wasn't broken until 1983 by Elmer Trett (in a sanctioned race). Elmer left us in 1996 during an exhibition run. I've seen many of these guys run their wild machines being that I practically grew up on the 1/4 mile strip with my father racing nonstop through the 70's. I really miss those days sometimes. Everything is so "by the book" now that it takes all of the fun out of it. There was a time that it was nothing more that 2 guys lining up at the tree and when the light turned green the first one across the finish line was the winner and progressed to the next round.

I know Russ' Twin the Sorcerer was the first into the 200 mph rage, but I really liked his triple the Atchison,Topeka and Santa Fe. I threw out all the old magazines that had shots of it at the time. Anyone got any good shots of her? I'd love to get a real good color shot of it so I could make a poster out of it.

Today, Russ Collins still consults to automobile manufacturers and race teams, providing expertise in fuel management and data acquisition, however, the primary focus at RC Engineering is on marketing new technology: fuel injection systems, performance upgrades for the racer and street high- performance enthusiast and, of course, supplying the best custom injectors in the world.

The bike is doing great and we took her to Milwaukee last weekend. Came home with some dinner money. LOL. The new project is coming right along but the race account needs a boost to complete it. Guess I'll be on the road at least 4 more times before winter sets in. May even have to head South a couple of times.

Hey Paris, when did you come to the UK ?

The first two pics are Ag Macphail and Mick Hand. I raced with those guys back in the 60/70s
Mick had a 250 honda that ran in the high 9s and in 350 trim it almost got into the 8s.

The 1st two pictures are Angus McPhail's Jade Warrior and the 3rd picture is Dan Bowker with his 427 powered Ford nitro burner. I've never had the honor of visiting the UK but these are pictures I have on my "Wall Of Biker Gods" in my garage. Anyone who's this crazy earns my following pretty quick.

Most of the pictures came from many of the old racing books that I have but I was fortunate enough to meet many of the crazies back in the 70's and 80's when I went with my Dad to the track. I have many autographed pictures from guys such as Bill "Maverick" Gloden, Big Daddy Don, Kenny Bernstein, The Michigan Madman, Tom Daniels and the list goes on and on. Most of the autographed pictures were taken at the track. This was back when the race machines looked as mean as they ran. I remember one saturday during the Spring Nations at National Trails Raceway in Columbus, Ohio a man and woman took their clothes off at the tree and streaked all the way down the 1/4 mile. This was the same year that Ray Stevens released the song "The Streak". My Dad tried to cover my eyes but I saw them boobs a bouncing. LOL.

I saw EJ Potter (Michigan Mad Man) at Santa Pod, he nearly killed himself on that thing.

He got outa shape half distance, hit the armco barrier, the whole shabang went about ten foot in the air and he landed slap bang in the middle of the track.

What did he do next ?? Just wound it open again and smoked it to the end.

You wonder why they called him Mad Man. ;D ;D ;D
