Is my airbox on correctly?
« on: October 23, 2005, 02:48:06 PM »
Just look at the picture... It seems logical that the scoop should be facing the other direction, doesn't it?  But it doesn't seem to want to fit any other way.

Aren't you using individual filters? -looks like but the pic is not so big...- In that case doesn't matter where the scoop is facing... ;D

My modern bike have the scoop facing down. Actually, taking it out of the air stream is good because you avoid air turbulence. The bike will still suck as much air as it needs. I guess that if the air was going directly into the cylinders then it would make sense to put the opening facing the air stream. If I'm wrong somebody please correct me.

Yeah it has pods on there, but I'm eventually gonna find the time to cram the old box/boots back behind the carbs.

I just noticed today that the scoop seems kinda backwards...

There is usually a sidecover on the bike, shielding any direct flow to the filter inlet.

If the scoop faced forwards, it would also gooble up rain and other detritus from the road.

Also, if the scoop faced forward it might create more positive pressure in the carb bore and reduce the amount of flow through the fuel metering jets, leaning the mixture.

If you want ram air to be of benefit, you'll need the same pressure on the fuel vents for the carb float bowls, as is presented to the carb throats.
