That should work no problem on the twin.  I had to flip the goldwing at the coils when it happened to me.

I've had a think about this and it would work but only for the left side cylinder as both cylinders were timed off the left side timing mark

I've got some GX400 parts laying around, I'll see if I can find them.  I do have the engine as well but it was left in the weather before I got it and was stuck solid.  I should have the electrics for the ignition some where.

Freighting an engine might be a bit prohibitive mate. ;D

I bet the $$ the engine would cost would be.  I sent one of my small bowls to Queens Land in Aussie and it was $70 CDN just for postage.

I see if I can dig out the electrics over the weekend.

If it stopped suddenly i would suspect more the ignition circuit than anything else mate

Yeah the armature thing that goes over the stator kept flying off and I suspect it took out the stator wiring as a quick short and that killed the bike.
I was going to do the head gasket anyway in the winter so this just sped things up.

Have retimed the bike, reset the the cams and chain and timing marks etc, still doesn't want to start so suspect I've screwed up the points area somehow, gonna remove the whole points plate and check it over then reset it all again...........grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. :(

have been doing just that Kit, when I finish work I just decide not to go near the shed some nights.
I did remove the whole points system and replace all the wee adjusting screws as they had all had their tiny little it ti bit ti threads TOTALLY MANGLED BY SOME CROMANGON!!! but enough about my lack of finesse with a screwdriver. ;D
Jaffa's bike is one of those anomalies, it is part way between the era when the GSX400 had it's points replaced with PEI (CDI) and the cam chain system was altered for whatever reason.
So she has the modern cam set-up but the older points system, I need to refer to the 81 manual I bought for the points and then rush inside to check the manual I downloaded for the cams...most vexing. >:(
Anyhow while I dither, Jaffa has been getting on with the paint job, God this thing looks girlie! :D

OK I'll admit it, I'm stumped...it is so tuned it should start!
I'm gonna get an old mate from my teenage riding years who like me still potters around with bikes to give me a hand, maybe he can see what I am doing wrong?

Arrrghhh, you know the drill, fix one thing and another breaks!!!
That horrible noise seems to be coming from the starter motor which is now not turning the donkey over, took it apart and the brass bush in the end is all knocked about...will require renewing.
Hopefully once I've climbed that mountain the damn bike will fire up!
