what is ratio for speedometer 1980 cb650
« on: April 15, 2009, 03:49:19 pm »
Does anybody know the ratio for the speedometer on a cb650 from 1980...???
Been looking at those mini speedometers to place right by the front axle so that I can rip the cockpit of my bike for a clean shaven look...... ;D ;D ;D ;D
Marti, I want you to know, I like you an awful lot, but guys have said far less and left wearing their drinks on their shirts.

Cant remember, but I think you can turn the crank by hand and count the revolutions at the cable end.

Regardless  ::) ..... you should post it for the rest of us poor souls who'd like to do the same thing someday  ;D.

750's speedometer ratio is 2240:60 like earlier Harley's.  Most Japanese bikes of our era use this ratio so I would be surprised if it is not the same on the 650 . . .

see,problem is,if it does turn out to be different then I spend 34 bucks plus shipping....money i can spend for beer.. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

then again,it's just to keep it legal,i will never look at it to see how fast im going, cause its right by the wheel... ;) ;)

All older japan bikes that have a cable driven speedometer running off of the front wheel have the same reading.  The only thing you match is the speedometer drive to the wheel you are running.  I believe its like 2250 RPM= 60MPH or something like that.

Cable driven tachometers are what have the different ratio of 1:4 or 1:5

That is an inconceivably egregious transgression against my rudimentary concordance of socially shunned individuals.
