Proper, correct Steering dampener from HONDA CR750 Kit
« on: April 21, 2009, 10:15:02 am »
Please find a pic of a real CR750 KIT steering dampener. I read that someone, somewhere on this forum wanted deatails/information on this set-up. Note: the spherical ball joint at end.

Thanks Mark and Sam - I got sorted with a CL77 damper from Dennis and it looks exactly the same as the kit part (different brackets I'll give you).

Is yours for sale Mark - if so how much?!  ;)

so are you saying I can buy this and resell it as a CR750 damper  ;D

Try your luck - aside from the front fitting it's identical in appearance to my CL77 one from Dennis. I'm more than happy with its range of movement and looks too so hey, why not!  :D

Go for it.........but beware..........The tension is often quite abit different from one unit to another.  I have several of these in my stash of parts because I restore the CL72 and CL77 models.  Some of the units are very stiff in one direction and have little or no resistance in the other.  I sorted the units that I supplied to his lordship and another for balanced tension in both directions. The rod-end is removable with a threaded fitting.  Occasionally a new one will show up with prices starting at $79..........If you are going to be at Road America in June, you could sample my inventory to your liking.  Dennis

My wife keeps telling me that...........Actually, I have a dozen or more of the dampeners but will need a few to finish my projects.........2 CL77s..........3 CL72s..........a CB750 Cafe with a Dunstall 1/4 fairing, tank, and seat-tail.......and then the end game......a replica CR.  I have been saving a late 1970 CB750 frame and motor with only 5,000 miles to build with a combination of the Air-Tech fairing and seat but a vinyl CR tank to eliminate the modern fuel problem.  I also have ambitions of building a stock AHRMA racer for some fun at the 3 or 4 race events that I attend.  I live only a few miles from Road America.  My regular ride is a CB750 K3 that I have had since new. It is now refreshed with a 1-over piston kit and a set of original pipes.  It should be together in a few weeks.  I had a new '69 sandcast but sold it in '72 because it had what I thought was high mileage....25,000 or so.

The dampeners were used on several other models....CL350.....SL350........CL160..........CL175 to name a few. When do we see the your finished bike?

ooo, just as soon as! Got the tins back from paint last week in full 1969 Suzuka colours which are W-I-L-D! Exhausts are back from coating on 1st May and then it's the final build details etc. The one thing that will slow me down is clearance under the points cover. I don't know whether to risk trimming back the nut on the advancer spindle or try and make a 2mm spacer for the points cover itself - either could take time....

The next biggest issue is bleeding the stock twin front brakes - I've had six goes at this now and still can't get anything other than a spongey back to the bars lever so will try the syringe fill method up from the caliper next. This is becoming a real pita as I'm pretty good at bleeding brakes but they're getting me beat!

Once they're done it's details so I'll probably go for a start of it and time up the ignition before 100% complete and I can then post some pics and video. The paint is sooooo mad I'm not going to post before it's ready though, it's just sick! ;D
