CB Motorcycle Clubs
« on: October 27, 2005, 09:33:49 PM »
Mr.Blasty here on the board contacted me recently about possible motorcycle clubs in the portland, oregon area. It was a good question, i had no idea. Do any of you guys belong to, or know of clubs in your state that are specific to older generation bikes including old BMW's, CB750/550's maybe some old triumphs? Just wondering if those kind of clubs or get togethers actually happen. I know of one club in seattle that were guys that owned CB's from the 70's would get together and take rides. I think that would be a good idea, im tired of riding alone. Or is that impossible due to all of our bikes breaking down along the way. ha ha.

It's pretty easy to start your own group if you don't find any that suit you.  Craigslist is one of the best ways to find people with similar interests.  Last Spring I found one other guy on Yahoo groups who was trying to start a classic bike group in Denver, but not having any luck.  I posted the info on Cragslist and got several replies, one from a guy who had been wanting to start a monthly rally.  We've been holding the 1st Thursday rally every month since last April and it's still going strong.

Gordon,
What is Craigslist? does it apply to the UK?
Has anyone heard about finding people by the specific Google search that they do? I was talking to a guy who said he could find people who had searched for Hondas on Google!
Jim.

Craigslist is a free classifieds website that started in San Francisco, but is now international.  I have bought and sold many bikes and cars on it, and like I said before, helped start a classic bike group.

http://www.craigslist.org/

On the right side of the screen is the list of links for specific cities.  It's a great, free resource.

Hey 78 Slatlick

Here are the Cretins. http://www.cretins.org/ Seattle/los Angeles. Mostly ride old 70's hondas and the like. I am not one of them but actually have a space in the same building their clubhouse is in. There is also the VME http://www.micapeak.com/VME/ that meets the first wed of each month in georgetown. They tend to be a bit more on the stock side of things. But a #$%*load of people show up for their meetings.

I'm in Orange County and there are no groups that I know of. Everything is in L.A. or San Diego.

I'm tellin you, start up your own classic bike group.  We started the Rusted Nuts in Denver two years ago and the group is only getting bigger.  Maybe you can start the Nashville chapter of the Nuts and we'll be an interstate club! :D

There are other people in your area looking for a bike group to fit their style and not finding one.  If they see you trying to start one, they'll join in and help out.

Unless your interested in the 'fudd' type clubs, I don't know, since I really don't hang with clubs.  But I wouldn't mind someone to ride with, send me a PM and lets ride.  Better yet, lets get ahold of some other OR members and get out for a day!

If you are interested in contacting other SOHC/4 members in your area, drop me a line at admin@sohc4.net.  We have 4000 members and I am willing to send an invitation to members in specific regions to participate in a forum, or mailing list about regional events.

Back in the SOHC/4 mailing list days, when it was a bit more intimate, there were annual group rides and other events that took place in the US and Europe.  In the mid-Atlantic states, for instance, we usually had 2-3 rides a year with winter meet-ups.

Recently, I set up some regional mailing lists using Googel groups; I don't know that they've taken off at all though.  It might be just as well to set up more focused forums here in the Club section since you can subscribe to the forums and get email alerts of new posts.  If someone wants to volunteer to be a regional rep, I can work with you to get the word out, make you moderator of the regional forum, and get information up on sohc4.net to publicize your group and point people to your site if you want to create one.

I have posted this group before.
I belong to a group in the Tampa area, Classic Owner's Motorcycle Association (C.O.M.A.)
It consists of older mostly metric motorcycles. Lots Triumphs, BMW's, Nortons, Matchless, A few older Honda's. We do monthly rides, go together as a group to bike shows and bike nights. Its fun to show up and steal the show from the Harley's. I am more than welcome in this group with my 75 550f.
