Bruce MacKown, who produces videos of motorcycle builds under The Moto Channel on YouTube shot a video of my bike a couple of weeks ago.  There are also a bunch of great bikes on his channel, including forum member Doctor D, Jay LaRossa and others.  Aside from the awkward guy in the video (me), it's pretty cool.

You did well Don, not too awkward at all... ;)  You had to find a false neutral for the camera too i noticed... ;D :o

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I introduce to you, our newest member, Hollywood Don!  :D

I just want to know, did you have to read the list of all the mods from a script, or was that truly from memory? Petty comprehensive description. I couldn't tell if you were pandering for sympathy about all the trials and tribulations you'd gone through to get the bike to it's now, beautiful stage? Or were you just documenting for insurance purposes  ;)

Seriously enjoyed the vid and walk around. Lots of great looking details and to see/hear it in motion is a very in treat.

Bruce had me give a description of all the current mods on the bike, but trying to remember and recite the 5-6 year history of mods with no list or script was a challenge. Looking back, a list really would have come in handy.

Beautiful photos Don. Are those mirrors functional? Meaning can you see anything without having to move around on the bike?

Hah! A v-twin superbike for a 17-year-old. I'm sure he would like it but I would be disowned by my entire family. It look some significant seat time before I started riding that beast. It is a LOT of bike.

I'll probably start him with an enduro.

Not so much. I have to move my forearm up to see around it. I will likely buy the bar end adapters so I can re-mount them with better clearance.

So I just checked out the video. I really like your bike, its one of my favorites. The video has me wondering a couple questions. You may have covered it in your thread here but I couldn't find the answers. I know you got new forks tubes but are they shorter? Did you get shorter springs as well? I also noticed you have the speedo drive but its not connected. How does your speedo read the speed?

Hi Branden.  Thanks!  I did purchase new fork tubes from Forking by Frank.  I had them make me tubes that were approximately 1 3/4 inches shorter than stock, since the GL tubes are so much longer than the 750 tubes.  Race Tech took the shorter length into account in selecting the springs for my weight, too.  I do not think that the springs are shorter, but have less tension.  Otherwise, the springs for your regular weight in a shorter tube are too stiff. 

I eliminated the manual tach and speedo drives.  The tach is read directly from an output wire from the Dyna 2000.  I think you can have it also take a reading off of the coils if you have a Pamco or Dyna S.  The speedo reads off of a magnetic pickup unit on the wheel.  The opposite pickup is next to the left brake caliper.  You can see the line leading to the pickup runnning downward wrapped around the left brake line:

The Acewell meter by itself isn't half as sharp looking without the cool Joker Machine billet housing that Richard Warren agreed to sell me -- one of his spares when he made a similar housing for his show bike.

I am running aftermarket fork gators on this bike, but the quality is turning out to be less than stellar -- I can see some cracks forming on the creases.  It's been so long that I cannot even remember where I got these, but they do not require the fork ear and fork leg fittings.

Does anyone have a recommendation for similar gators that will not crap out on me?  DCC vs. Cycle X?

I'm pretty happy with the Trucklite LED headlight.  The output is a huge improvement over stock, and a more defined beam than the halogen.  It also draws less current.  The only minus is that it is a heavy bastard.  It must weight 3 times a regular bulb because it has a metal housing.  I would recommend using a metal headlight bucket since your plastic one may crack (mine did!).
