The bacon isnt a bad idea. Squirt a little bacon grease along the bottom of your bike cover. Sure it'll smell like bacon (not a bad thing) but I really doubt the dog would pee on something he'd think smells like food.

I know I wouldnt.

nah, nah, nah....put the bacon grease on the other side of the sidewalk from the bike, dogs will go there and forget about the bike.

Most dogs would rather eat (or sniff food) than mark their territory.

I've noticed that dogs tend to pee where other dogs have pee'd to mark their territory. So I'm guessing your pee soaked cover is attracting more pee than a clean, un-pee'd on one would.

..Just a thought on the issue, sorry I don't have a solution  :-\

you could always bleach the pee stains, that'll likely kill the scent.

Ya gotta love this thread. It's the "Can SOHC/4'ers Outsmart Dogs Thread." ;-)

I vote for cleaning the cover with detergent and picking up some dog repellent at Lowes.

Have you ever tried asking the owner to stop his dog from peeing on your bike?

A simple request may solve your problem. Beats harming the dog. He's only doing what comes natural to him.

MAKE A SIGN AND ATTATCH IT TO YOUR BIKE COVER!

"Dogs please dont pee on my cover"

My dog likes to water our tires in the driveway.
Bittering agent works
Pepper spray works
Citronella works
I'd tell you how I solved the issue, but your hand would get real tired beating 100 dogs asses a day.
Also, wash your cover, if it's water resistant and won't bleach, bleach it. The rest of them are peeing on it cause one did it once.

What everyone fails to mention is that being in a city, I'm sure these dogs are being walked by someone. Someone who's probably standing there with his/her index finger buried two inches up their nose as they watch Fido piss on your bike. Do I blame the dog? No, I blame that boob walking it for not respecting someone else's property and correcting their dog when it happens. It's all a part of responsible dog ownership.  :) :)

if you can find wolf pee, dogs will steer clear of your bike.
yes, I'm aware of how strange that sounds. but it falls under "dominate species". and dogs will pretty much freak out and stay away from your bike.

Yes -- don't forget that it's not the dog's fault, it's the owner. Shock the owner, pour anti-freeze down the owners throat, kick and spank the owner, kick the owner's sorry ass for LETTING the dog piss on your cover, but please don't hurt the dog. He won't even know why you're doing it.

Sincerely, another NYC sidewalk-parking piss-stained-cover dog owner who never lets his dog piss on bicycles or motorcycles and always picks his dog's crap up off the sidewalk.

sorry -- didn't mean to single anybody out -- just made me edgy to see so many suggestions that the dog be tortured for doing what it does naturally. clearly the owner should be the one who gets tortured.

Well in that case, vames lets rally everyone and send out hate mail!
You guys pick one, print and hand out at your convienence.

"Dear Owner of 80 lb dog that pisses on my bike,
Enclosed you will find $80 dollars to humanely euthanize your dog. Make use you waste of space. Thank you, goodnight."

"Dear Neighbor with the 80 lb dog,
Please take this treat as a gift. It is peanut butter flavored with a bacon center for extra yumminess. I am an inventor of dog treats and I think your dog is beautiful and I would like to use him in my commercial. While you were busy reading this, your dog has just injested a high dose of rat poison. Thank you for preventing your dog from being a further nuissance. Goodnight."

I do know that the Hells angels who own the house a block over on 3rd street threaten to beat senseless any dog owner who lets his dog meander too close to their bikes. Extremely effective and no dogs harmed in the process.

Years ago , with my first bike, i had changed the oil and taken it for a ride.Came back and made coffee, and went out to admire the bike, when lo and behold oil had dripped onto the back wheel. In an effort to be thorough and check the oil was not leaking from somewhere i dipped my finger in it (and don't ask me why) and tasted it.
F%$%#%$#%

It wasn't oil. ;D

Don't do it in Massachusetts. Unregistered possession of a Red Ryder BB gun in Mass is subject to a one year mandatory prison sentence. I think wrist rockets are O.K.
