Topic: cb500 handlebar electrics

howdy,

I've just tried to install handlebars and wiring on my '72 cb 500 four.
first, the number on the engine is cb 500E2030650, the number on the frame is 2030665.

what year is this bike?

the handlebar switch sets I received from a salvage yard have wires that do not correspond to any of the wiring schematics I have with the owner's manual. I have turn signal and tach and speedo wires connected, (green, brown/white) but none of the wires that come from the turn signal and hi/lo switch on the bars correspond with the open wires in the headlamp bucket.

I think I've been sold a set of switch pods that are actually for an older/different bike. can I use them, or do I need to buy another set of switch pods?

I can't move any further with the restoration  undil I can check circuits and actually turn the thing on. please help!

According to the serial number, your bike is a 1972 CB500K1. So far as the wiring colors and viability, you could use a VOM using the ohm function to identify the specific wires on the handlebar switches. In this way, you will not need power to test continuity. Once you have matched the switches with the wire colors, tag the wires with their function and use your schematic to mate the existing harness connectors to the newly tagged wires by function rather than wire color.
