86 GSXR cams where to find
« on: May 05, 2009, 06:34:00 PM »
I have a 86 GSXR 750 with  a pitted intake cam.  I want to resurface or buy new cams.  Does anyone have a source for them.  I have modified the suspension and made rear sets and modified the clipons.  I like this bike.
Thanks for any suggestions
Steve

megacycle http://www.megacyclecams.com/ lists cams for your bike. the regrind is a more durable cam than the billet cams, way harder and longer lasting.

The SACS motor didn't change too much from 1985 to 2007, the pitting was common, even when new. The late 1100 (1127cc), and Bandit 1200 has taller cylinder but bore spacing is exactly the same (just in case you ever wanted to bore/ sleeve 750 out to 900cc)
I just cant remember about the early 1100 (1052cc)
As long as its for screw adjusters, pretty much any cam will fit. 90 or 91, 750 or 600 should work pretty well. (I'm not sure about the 92~97 shim and rocker cams, they do allow those motors an extra 500 rpm but you would have to put a degree wheel on it and check lift/duration.
Bandit and Katana cams fit but are 'milder'

Thanks for the info.   I decided to get a new intake cam and followers.  Can't wait to get her running
