I have a "Tric Deluxe" Dreadnought guitar case for when I need to throw my acoustic into the back of Jeep. It's made of ABS foam (the same as car bumpers) and you should be able to actually check it as luggage. The deluxe model has backpack straps a couple of pockets to carry extra things. The case itself is super light, but I could see how it could offer some wind resistance The good thing is that if you bail, you could ride to a stop on your guitar case or use it as a bumper! I love mine! Paid $100 for it.

Here is an image.

It's an option!

I love this guitar - it is, of course electric but you can get a small amp.  I had a long commute for a while and played it in my lap... only when stopped in traffic of course...  I had a belt clip amp that ran off of batteries and I somehow had it plugged into the lighter as well.

This guitar is really nice for staying in tune as well.  It seems to never "go out".  I'd give up my strat before this one.  ;)

what model is that? looks nice and handy.

It's a Steinberger Spirit GT-1.  Excellent hardware (pickups, tremolo, machine head?!)  It's obviously very small but has a full fretboard.  It plays better than my Strat and is obviously very small.  Mine's black - they come in different colors - www.steinberger.com

That's all I need, a case to take the Tele I've had for ten years and still can't play somewhere else on my moto-cycle and still not be able to play. I love guitars but man I can't play for shyte.

But I tell you what, I'll still have that tele in ten more years...

what model and year peavey Hush? i've really gotten to like the 80's peavey guitars, especially the t-15, heavy beastie but i love the way it looks and plays. back as a kid, the only music store in the area (this is before the internet) carried peavey and carvin guitars. so i had a choice between the 2 brands.

Its a RAPTOR PLUS EXP if that helps, a bit rare in NZ as PEAVEY are known here for making amps not gats.

Thanks for the tips everyone!
I don't think I'll get a Martin backpacker because I hate the sound of them for the money.  I believe I'll end up strapping the guitar along the side like some of those cases shown.
I've got an 80s Peavey too.  It was my first electric.  It's a T30 3/4 size guitar.  Very cool with a maple neck and swamp ash body.  The metal nut and weird bridge leave something to be desired and the stock pickups are s$%T.  I swapped one of them for a Seymour Duncan Hot rails and it's an nice sounding and playing guitar.
Nobody makes anything like it now.  You can't get a real wood, made in USA guitar for the money this thing probably went for.

I just use a soft case with straps and wear it like a back pack. It's amazing how much wind drag it creates though.
  Yes, like a sailboat.

It is the easiest option, though.
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

I think the pick-ups are OK Fuzzy it's the cheap 5 watt Amp that I have makes it sound crap ha ha, amp is OK for my Talman acuistic/electric.

I have a brand spanking new Martin Backpack guitar, sadly it hasn't gotten much use.
Have anything to trade?  ;)

I don't really.  I'm kind of a packrat when it comes to music stuff!  Or any stuff for that matter.  I have to confess I tried a backpacker and really didn't like it.  I think I would enjoy an equally priced smaller classical guitar more, even though it would take up more room.
Anyway my solution for now is to leave one of my lesser used guitars at the studio and fly solo!  But I need to figure something out if I'm to take my bike across the country next summer!
I think a cow-sized sidecar would be brilliant, but would probably handle weird.  Thanks everyone for your ideas.  Happy summer!

I would put it on your rack but face the neck and head backwards. You can then slide the case forward almost to you back and then bungie it.

This is how I have done it in the past.  Works OK, I worry about it a little (crashing) but it gets the job done.
