syncing carbs, noob question which bol/screw to adjust???
« on: May 19, 2009, 12:34:24 AM »
This might sound like a stupid question, but I am new to working on the honda cb, and carburetors in general. I built a manometer similar to the ones on the forum, and am planning on doing a sync tomorrow, but don't know which bolt and screw to adjust in order to sync them.

already replaced plugs, adjusted valves, cam chain, cleaned carbs, rebuilt petcock, changed oil/ air filter, replaced points and condensers, adjusted timing...I'm probably forgetting something that I did, but anywho......

Back to the question...what bolt and screw do I use to sync the carbs? ??? ???

I believe it is the ones in the pic numbered 1 and 3, but want to be sure before i 'ef something up.

loosen 3, and then adjust by turning number 1 ??? ???

Thanks for the help and support

What year and cc model etc, always helps us answer and usually you get replies from guys with the same machines.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

the pic is right out of the manual, but it didn't give good instruction on how to sync. Mine look identical to the pic

#1 is the adjustment screw.  Loosen the locknuts, make your adjustments, and then tighten them down again.

Thanks again  :D

I know everyone likes pics, so here's a pic of my manometer, I will get pics of the bike up tomorrow

Hey that's cool, what are you filling it with? or do you fill it with anything!
I know some use water and some use mercury, air ones use wee plastic balls.

well I cannot get my hands on mercury, unless i break open a bunch of old thermometers, so thats out.

From what i've read on here, auto trans fluid is my best bet...won't hurt the engine if it gets sucked in (just a little smoke) and it's easy to see since it's red.

I spent $5 on 50 feet of tubing, and $2.68 on the 3 way t's.

Not too shabby in my opinion :D

Yeah, ATF is the way to go. Plus it's red and easy to see. I made a manometer for my old two cylinder bike.
