Ok so here is an up date. i have been riding this bike all over town. Its fun and zippy. It has been running with no real issues. i need to do a plug chop on my 750 but though id give it a shot first with a bike that was running a little better as i have to ride a ways to get to a hill to chop on. So here is that adventure.
here we are getting ready. I runn with a bit larger crowd.

pull off the road and swap out the plugs. I FORGOT TO GAP THEM!!! oh well they will stil work. They are usualy close.

i do a ride up the hill get to 5th gear and have the throttle pegged. I max out at about 87 up hill and hold it for a ways then shut her down, pull the plugs, put in the old ones and start up the rest of the grade. 1/2 way up the bike dies. I was jamming!! Blown fuse, ok so i move some fuses around and try to get it going. Fuse blows again. No more fuses. So i dig through my bag and find a bolt. Put the blt in and the lights come on. The oil and neutral light are blinking, like the blinkers. I look at the electrical panel and the blinker relay conectors were not all the way on and were shorting out on something. so i fix that and ride the rest of the way to the top where i fixed it good. This ought to hold it. Its tied in with dental floss

then we take the logn way back down

and this is what my motor looks like after a long ride

thats all for now oh and my plug chop pics. Despite the bike running good to the feel i think its lean

Re jetted to 120! thats just what i had lying around, well i stole them from my 750 but it needs new jets too. So i rode it up and down the street and it feels a lot better at WOT but now i bet i have to raise my needles. First thins first. Off to the hill for another plug chop.

After riding it for a bit it felt smoother but slower on the acceleration. Did the plug chop with the 120s and here is what i got. I think its rich now so im considering dropping back to 115s.

same plug but they were all the same except #2 but i will sort that out later.

Man, I LOVE what you've done with that F tank!  Did you just beat those dents in or did that require cutting and welding?  Any pics of the process?  Thanks!

yeah there are pics in my 750 build thread. the link is at the bottom of my post. I pounded in the dents and then filled and shaped with bondo. After lots of sanding i lost interest about 6 months ago. Its looking ok but you can still see the outline of where the bondo is and im no quite sure how to fix it. More bondo?

As I said over in:
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=60546.msg657101#msg657101

The shadow deposits indicate you have one throttle setting rich and another lean, I think.

Soot builds up on all the center electrode at one throttle position, and then tries to burn off at another throttle position, but the overall cylinder heat level can't burn off the deposits on one side.

As mentioned over in the other thread, PODs create such turbulence thin the carb throats that you may never get them to feed fuel predictably at all throttle positions.

When reading plugs for tuning purposes, I think you have to use clean plugs and only operate them at one throttle setting under load.

yeah, i understand that and am commited to getting my bike to run as best it can with pods. The above picture is of a fresh plug used 1 time in a up hill about a mile long at WOT. Thats why i was courious about the one sided deposit. I am not well versed on what goes on inside the cumbustion chamber aside from with the right fuel and air mixture and a spark you get ignition. as far as what causes one side of a spark plug to be different then the other side a 1/4 inch away beets me but i would love to know or at least be pointed in the direction to learn.

I'm diggin' the front blinkers you're using on the 550.  Where did you get them?  Do they have a bolt built in to mount the headlight?

i got them at cycle gear. The bulbs burnt out and i cant find replacements. Hard to find. Now the ones on my 750 i have never had problems with. I just use the blinker in place of the bolt for the headlight.

Well a little up date. I have a spare motor that im going to throw in. The current one is leaking bad. So the new motor will go in and see how it runs. Then we will see if im going to rebuild or not. Then I want to put in the 650 cam and see how that does. Then i will drop on the ported head and see what differance that makes. But for now Im trying to drop the front end. I really like the brat style looking bikes so im going to go see if the machine shop can chop about 3-4" off my tubes and re thread them. Here is the current state. I havent been able to work on it much in the last 6 months due to wedding planning, but thats done and now i just have to balance worki9ng on the house with the bike to keep the wife happy.

glazing putty or laquer putty, 2 names for the same thing. red stuff, comes in a tube like toothpaste. you use it to fill pinholes and minor imperfections after filling and priming.

I like to put it on with a razorblade. dries in a minute.

Well i got to tinkering around on the 550. I fabed up the dual disk but it doesnt work so well. The wheel gets locked up. I think the mount needs to be shaved down on the bottom bolt. The other problem might be the caliper not being flat. Ill get back to that later. I need to take the forks apart so i can have them shortened. I think im going to take off 3 inches. these are off a 750f so they are longer then stock. Any body know how long fork tubes on a 750F are? I also started cutting brackets off the bike. It was hard to bring myself to do it but it had to be done. My plan right now is to build a 2 part cafe seat. Seat pan will be curved piece of steel and the cowling will be fiberglass. like so.

I have a new Oregon electrics reg/rec., a honda man ign, im going to run a 20amp breaker instead of a fuse panel. Im going to hide it all and the battery under the hump. I will be doing a re-wire from scratch.  Here is where im at right now.
