Is there a special gasket between the upper and lower crankcases or just joining gasket goo?

There are many Honda web sites that have parts fich that you can use to check out part numbers and order of assembly of components. Go to google and search for honda parts fich.

Just goo BUT NOT THICK GOBS OF SILICONE
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).
