Topic: Removing cam chain tensioner on a 750 K6...

Can one simply remove the mechanism from the head, via the cam cam adjuster?  Or does one have to get busy removing engine from frame, separating heads and so on?

Hi just undoe the 3 bolts that hold the tensioner in place at the back of the block and remove as one  , cheers Mick

I believe that was the easiest part-I mean compared to other parts.
3 bolts to remove.
When installing read the service manual and do thorough research in this forum.
First time I made the mistake.
Second time - TDC 1-4 and 15 degress more clockwise (hope I am right about this).
On second time I actually heard spring popping out to make the tensioner tighter.

Do not over tighten the 3 bolts.

If you mean the tensioner bar under the carbs not problem but remove it carefull and see how much movement there is left on the plunger by unlocking the bolt after it is out as that is a good indication of cam chain wear. Therei s a"step" on the end of the bar so it should not fly accross the workshop althoug i have seen this filed off to get a bit extra movement when chain is worn out

If you mean the rollers 'fraid its an engin out strip down job

Good to know.  I'm sourcing a misfire, and its down to either a bad cam chain tensioner or an exhaust valve.  Looks like its 50/50 on having to do an engine teardown. 

But you never know.

The Timing Fairy might pay a visit tomorrow and the misfire might magically go away.
