BUB / Bonneville Salt Flats
« on: May 31, 2009, 07:11:00 PM »
Noticed a few comments about BUB at the Salt Flats in other threads.............I will arrive on Tuesday (Sept 1) and stay to Friday.  Then going to Toole for the AHRMA races.  Traveling from Wisconsin with friends and meeting a few along the way.  We have three or more riders with CB750s but won't be on the salt with the bikes because we have original pipes.  I have a motel room booked for three nights plus we will use a conversion van and trailer for overflow.  This is our first trip so looking for tips on where to be and how to view the action.  We plan to use the van and maybe a pit bike or two to get around on the salt.  Yes, we know about wearing old shoes to through away when we leave.

I hope to make Bub this year & ride down on an old Honda 750.

Last year we stayed at Motel 6, pretty large contingent of racers there. and you will meet a few around the pool. I  weill try for that this year.

When 2 of us on the forum rode down in 07 we parked the bikes at Lands End, then thumbed in.. which ended up with us meeting some really great & well known racers.

If you do bring a cage, bring a few pit bikes or bicycles, all you really need.

Hats, dont count on getting a decent one there, bring one. Lightweight long pants, salt beats the heat  back UP, at an unexpected rate.

Its a great trip, lets get a few 750-4s put for the 40th anniversary..

I'll be staying at the Econo Lodge.  I have a green K3 and my brother-in-law has a K4. A rider from CA will be on a K6 and another rider from Minn (if he shows) has a very nice rider K0. Yes, we have hats, and water jugs, and a large umbrella. If we take a larger rolling cage, we will have pit bikes.  We have also thought of using a few planks on sawbucks with ladders for elevated seating. Will that work?  We have binoculars and a spotting scope for long-distance viewing.

We plan to continue the trip from Toole down to Albequerque for the next weekend's AHRMA races.  A local racer from Hayward WI will be at both events. Along the way we intend to park the van and trailer to take in the back roads and parks on the 750s.  Send me your cell# so I can find you in Wendover.

Talked to a buddy today that will be running a V-Twin at Bub. Dennis @ Bub offered to make him a set of 3 step pipes, ie 3 diff diameters.

So I suggested that  he mention  the idea I had for the drags to Dennis.. you never know , eh. Cant have 2 many things  for bikes happening in bike wek can you.. ;D

Man, I better start tearing into a motor & get some bearing shells ordered if I am going to get there by bike..
