Hello from Virginia.
« on: June 21, 2009, 07:09:28 PM »
I just got home from picking up my first SOHC 750.  I sold my Yamaha XS650 and wanted another project.  This one is a 1978 CB750F with less than 6000 miles.  It has not run since 1987 as far as I know.  It is all original, even the tires.  There is plenty of work to be done and I look forward to being part of this forum.

Welcome, Mr. Outboard. 6,000 miles, wow. Does the motor turn? If not, I know there are more than one thread about getting a seized motor going.

What kind of shape is it in? How about some pictures?

Yes, It does turn over, the compression is 140psi. all the way accross.  The tank has no rust at all (Iwas amazed).  Right now I am waiting for the carb kits to arrive.  It is all original but the left side panel plastic cover was missing.  The hunt is on.

Good on ya!

You may wish to check the "Where Can I Find Parts" thread in the FAQ forums. There is a list of companies that produce replica side covers, and to be honest, I'd say the replicas are better than the originals. The pins on the originals break off very easily. By the way, it's not a bad idea to replace the rubbers that hold the side covers (I think they can be gotten on ebay), and it's good to keep them a bit lubed.

Where in VA are you? We have a bunch of members down that way, especially around Washington. Personally, I've spent a fair amount of time in south central Virginia.

I'm in Newport News since 1990, before that I spent ten years in southside around Keysville, Farmville, and South Hill.

My mum's side of the family was from Fieldale, near Martinsville. I don't really know South Hill, but I've done the drive from Martinsville to Virginia Beach along rte. 58.
