We will have weeks of highs the do not even break ZERO. We get periods where the temp is -40 WITHOUT wind.

Which is why I don't live there. ::)

Lucky you! It's hard enough sometimes to drive a car that's a frozen block and barely starts and then try to steer and stop...sorry, I'm whining. I wanted to go for a little ride tomorrow but we got dumped on today and everything will freeze overnight and tomorrow it's supposed to warm up a little but it'll be a mess, ooops, I'm whining again.  :(
I was never a big fan of winter and now that I've got this bike, the winter is just going to drag on. On the upside it gives me time to tinker and fix stuff on the bike.

The only time I ran into a hale storm riding my trusty Suzuki GT250
it was 80F sunny in upstate Alabama,US. Very slippery. Made me
long for the olde days of riding in the snow in Vermont, so I came back

Ride in snow and cold? HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!!!! some of you have clearly NOT been to North Dakota. When the snow flies and temp drops, you wont be going ANYWHERE on a bike! You want an idea what our temps get like, think interior alaska or northern canada. We will have weeks of highs the do not even break ZERO. We get periods where the temp is -40 WITHOUT wind. You add that wind in and it will hit -80. You can almost freeze fire! At least it feels that way.
Snow is simple, it is ICE thats is our problem. 2 wheels and ice just do not dance well together. See this is why snowmobiles were made. It allows us to curb our motorcycle hunger!

I agree with Elder, besides the cars(cagers to some) are bad enough on dry pavement without throwing in slippery/ lousy traction on ice/snow.

That is definitely not Canadian English humor.
They would have lived in an igloo, near to dear
Nunavet, where the men are men and the women
well, ok, where are the women?
ANyways, what has this to do with snow? Well, it
definitely snows in Nunavet, so my Old Eskimo wife tells it.. ;D

And for sure, they only ride mopeds and snowmobiles in the white stuff.

Stay warm Terry, You will never know the shear joy of riding snow machines, things like having Your eyes freeze out of Your skull, a face that is so blistered from the cold that You dare not smile, and lets not talk about the snot racing stripes on either side of Your helmet.
Ahh poor poor Terry,  then again We don't need to worry about having things like kangaroos fighting us for the last beer, or muderous bands of post apocalyptic motorcycle gangs trying to kill us for our gasoline and women folk.;D

Mrblasty, you forgot the warm days when it doesn't want to snow so it rains, then you stop and unfold your armor coat.

Yeah, geez you're right mate, somehow my life seems so empty now, ha ha! Speaking of Kangaroos, as I was driving my work car (company won't let me ride my bike) on the 60 mile commute to work this morning, I was shocked by the amount of dead 'Roo's I saw on the highway.

We had a good winter this year and there's plenty of grass for them to eat, so they're breeding like crazy again and aren't the smartest animals on the block, and as fast as they are, they're no match for a Kenworth hauling 20+ tons of cargo. So as I took in this gruesome scenery that I swerved around like a red slalom, I was almost happy that I hadn't ridden my bike today, ha ha!

I Didn't see any murderous bands of post apocalyptic motorcycle gangs trying to kill us for our gasoline and women folk, but it was only 7am, and I believe that they're not really "morning" people, ha ha! Cheers, Terry.  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

At one time I worked a ski slope up there and in the early season we would make "snow". Ever so often one of the snow guns would pop its breaker and the massive compressor would shut off leaving the gun to spray lake water out the front(the guns were fed from the lake at the bottom of the slope.) To reset the gun You had to get in the front and to the side of the massive fan getting hosed.
After a few minutes on the snow machine, my Carharts were frozen stiff.
That was a fun job, Getting paid to zoom around and jump snow machines.

How ironic is it that I just started a thread on basically this same topic?  As for snow, I'd rather not ride on it.  Yeah, I'm having to ride my XS11 Special because my CB350f still isn't roadworthy, but at least I'm riding.  :)  My co-workers all think I'm nuts for riding here in Kentucky in 25F(-5C) degree weather.  Oh well, they don't ride, they don't understand.  Gotta get all the riding in we can, right?  :)

The snow has all melted. The sun is out. Temps are over 40F
time for a ride.

Hey cb350f_  my friend also rides an XS1100 all year round, snow or not.

another XS11 rider?  cool.  I guess my issue with snow is the fact it often leads to ice.  Contrary to popular belief, I do have self-preservation instincts, and riding on snow and ice with low profile tires can't be all that safe.

Though I would take a ride tonight.  Put on all the clothes I own, walk out side and it has snowed 1/2 inch!  Back inside now doing this instead.  This is not as good. :(
These wonderful little birds are great flyers, delicious eating, excellent for training your hunting dog, and just fun to shoot,or stuff and keep around the house.  Bobwhites can be put with other types of Quail and have very large penis's.  Quail are very popular with the babes.

Here in Kalifornia, snow is verboten to interact with vehicles unless it has 4 wheel drive with snow tires, or chains.  They put up road blocks and won't let you drive until you put the chains on.  Unless, of course, if you are driving a government vehicle, police, or military; the only ones who are legally competent.  ::)

I could actually find snow with with a couple hours drive on my bike.  But, the highway patrol won't let me drive in it.  Protecting us from ourselves, you know.

It's so nice they love us so...  :D
Or, is it they are protecting their income...    What would they do without taxpayers to heard and control?

Come to think of it, I haven't driven in any snow since 1968.  I was pretty good at it back then, though, in Illinois.  I wonder if the skills are still there?   But, I have to say it's preferable that I can visit snow when I want to.   But, it doesn't visit me.  Can't say I miss the shoveling.
And, no, I don't miss the "seasons" either.  We have two, thank you; dry season and wet season.  A few months of wet and then a lot of dry.  I know people that have no car, just a motorcycle and use it year round.

Cheers,

While I still now prefer not to ride in the snow now that I'm older and colder, I remember a trick us neighborhood kids used in high school to get around on our motorcycles in the snow when we only had street tread. We'd get hay rope from the neighbor's barn and braid 5 strands together to make a pretty tough rope about 10 feet in length. Then we'd tie one end to a spoke and wrap the rope around the tire about every 5th spoke, and tie off the end to another spoke. Worked like tire chains but we could never touch the pavement or they'd shred. Each rope would last a few days, then we'd build another. None of us ever tangled one into a chain for some reason. Ah, the good old days.

Geez mate, i like those ol' yokel remedies, di you wear onions in your belts too? Ha ha, well I've been looking everywhere for snow, it was a bit cold here yesterday, (even dipped below 80 deg F) my mate Andre (German James Bond) dropped around for some beers and a ride on my K1 "Kruiser", as you can see, it was a bit cool, Andre had to wear my gloves to stop his hands from freezing! Cheers, Terry. ;D

22F at 65mph was rather nippy riding today.

Saw some wierdo with skiis on the roof of his car.

Well, at least one of us is a wierdo, I think.

What really stinks is 1/2 mile from me I hit some frozen cow ploops.

Slid about 50 feet sideways, and managed to still get home to the
wife & kids.....still unemployed but still pretty. ;D

Terry, I will pray you and your mates don't suffer wind burns on your arms etc etc
Be carefull, it's a wild world out there.

Michel,
Did you manage to keep the bike up? I hope you are ok? I went out yesterday and got caught in the rain and did a test emergency stop; the back brake locked instantly(f***ing useless) and the front brake did 'f' all!
Terry,
You must be more careful, can't you clean off that paint that you spilt on the tank!  :D

Well I've only been to the snow twice in my 45 years mate, and I doubt that I'll ever go again, I just don't get what the attraction is? If I wanna be cold I can stand under one of my aircon ducts, and if I wanna slip on my ass I can walk across my kitchen tiles after the wife has waxed 'em?

I guess driving to work in that #$%* would be fun though, kinda like legal drunk driving? Ah well, I'll ponder it some more when I drag the scoot outta the garage tonight for a quick ride to my local Oasis, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D
