2 wire tail light
« on: June 24, 2009, 02:13:49 PM »
I just purchased a 2 wire stop light, one red wire one black. It has a dual filament bulb in it one for running lights and the other for the stop light.  How do I wire this up? would the red wire connect to the stop wire and running lights wire?  Or does the chassis of the stop light ground itself? It doesn't seem like it since its completely painted.

A good way to test it is to hook a jumper wire to one of them, we'll say red for now. Then hook a jumper wire to where the light mounts (screw hole, etc). Attach the second jumper to the frame somewhere and then tap the first jumper to the positive pole on the battery. Note how bright the the light is. Then repeat with the other wire.

Body of the taillight is ground. Needs to be touching metal that is grounded on the bike. One wire is one filament, other is ... the other one.
No.
