WILD HAIR CUSTOMS '72 CB750K2 Build
« on: June 26, 2009, 07:48:17 AM »
Hey there, thought i'd get started on the build thread...When I picked the bike up the PO said the engine was frozen...Trying to load the heap was a chore but we got it in the truck
After 11 hours of driving I got home an unloaded the beast...It was for sure locked but I had a suspicion it was the rear brake sticking.  Sure enough after some pounding on the rear lever the break released and it was rolling...SWEET!...Now to check the engine...The PO said it was locked up, but I'm not so sure...I had it rollen in second...it seemed like it was turning over...I did pull the plugs out and honestly they looked pretty good...no rust!...the kick start level is frozen...before turing in last night I sprayed PB Blaster all over the bike...I'll post more as the tear down progresses...Looks can be decieving...I really think i can save this SNOTTER.   The carbs look to be in relatively good shape...

Looks llike you're off to a good start! I'm looking forward to following this build. I'm picking up my K2 project Tuesday or Wednesday of next week and I can't wait to get started. What did you have in mind for yours? Stock, mild custom, chopper, cafe racer? Are the stock pipes in decent shape? I might be interested in them if you're not planning on using them.

I plan on building it Cafe style, similar to how carpy builds his bikes...The pipes were totally rusted out...So their not useful to anyone sorry.  Good luck on your project...get something posted as soon as you can

I look forward to seeing your project as it moves forward. I thought about going mild custom with mine (lowering, paint seat, bars..that kind of stuff, but it's pretty complete and my first project, so i'll probably go the stock route. I would like to make some mechanical upgrades that aren't visible to make it run and handle better. You can see a few pics in this thread: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=53129.0

I'll take some more photos whenever I get to pick it up. The owner is being a real a-hole and keeps putting me off. The bike is stored at his late father's place and he always has some excuse why he can't meet me up there so i can pick it up. I haven't given him any money yet, so I haven't lost anything, but I want the damn bike. It's really starting to PI$$ me off!!

then after I blasted I got into sanding the tank.  My idea is to polish the tins and pinstrip.  The tank is in pretty good shape

my next project is to form a seat pan and boat tailend.  I needed to figure how level to make it so I used a broom stick to level it and paper cutouts:

the paper cutout idea didn't really work for me so I stopped that part of the project and started on the seat pan.  I did some mods to the frame as i want to house the battery in the rear of the tail:

Looking good! Can't wait to follow this build and get all the tips I can. Carpy stuff is quite an inspiration to me, I really dig what he does...and what you're doing too.  SWEET! Keep'r Greasy!

thanks1 yeah, i really got stumped with the boat tail then I got the idea that I could use the back half of a gas tank...so here's the progression of forming a tank i got off a CL175...you will also, note there are some frame mods. I cut off the rear foot peg portion, I wanted a cleaner look.  here's where i'm at so far, I need to do some dolly work to round the tail section smoother.

I did some more dolly work on the tailend, I rolled the metal by hammering it...I think it turned out nicely.  I also, finished the front tire color scheme...the frame will that color of blue

I'm going to leave the tank and tail steel, I'll lay a 1/2 pin strip around the outter edge, a darker blue with a dark grey edge...I won't hav any side covers, putting the battery in the tail and mounting electrical just above the starter...in a finch box

Do you have any plans for a finch box? I've got plans for the Santee box, didn't know if there was a difference.

Wow!  You really were meticulous with the painter's tape.

Just kidding!   :D  I know it's the paint.  But it's about the same color as painter's tape.   ;D
