The view out west
« on: June 26, 2009, 08:09:16 PM »
My parents are in the middle of wheat harvest right now and, as such, are concerned about the weather on a minute-by-minute basis. Since I'm stuck in KC and can't help with harvest, they text/call me asking me to look up the radar, weather forcast, part numbers, etc. online.

Tonight while running the combines, they noticed a cloud front on the horizon to the West. Being worried about hail and wanting to get as much cut as possible before it rains, my mom sent me a text asking when they're going to get rained on.

Here's a pic of what they were looking at.

So I looked up the radar and told them they'll be safe since the clouds are almost 200 miles west of them, heading to the northeast. :D

They're in the middle of the map under the crosshairs.

Being a Texas boy (even though I now have the mountains to look at) I really miss that sky. :)

It's even more fantastic on a cloudless, moonless night when the stars stretch out forever...... 8)

Which is one of the reasons I started loving motorcycles... I'd ride to the top of the hill in the middle of the night on my SL175 and just stare off into space.

Nice view.
Somehow I think I would be scared of it, having pretty much grown up in the mountains/hills of New ENgland.

I completely understand.  It's the opposite for me.  I've been known to feel a little claustrophobic when I look West and see that huge wall of mountains.  I can always look East, though, and see the plains, but it's not the same as a sunset with an endless horizon.

Keep in mind that the radar display is depicting precipitation, not clouds.
