Topic: storing eyeglasses while on the road

Does anyone have a compartment or holder that works well for holding eyeglasses when you stop on the road and need a place to store them.  I usually stick mine on the seat at short stops or when I am putting on/off my helmet.  I know that some day I am going to sit on them, knock them off, or forget about them and ride off leaving them to bounce down the road at some inopportune time.

If you have suggestions and especially if you have a picture of a solution, post them up please.

My bike is a 74 CB750 that is pretty much stock, so storage bins and such in the front part of the bike are non existent.

That's a good question.  I don't wear glasses, but do typically wear sunglasses when riding and have had them get blown off the seat by the wind or vibrated off by the engine.  Sometimes I will slide one of the stems under the seat strap, but that's not the most convenient solution.  I'm interested to see what others do.

Sliding one side under the seat.  Dang, why didn't I think of that?  This is a good start.

I ride with a First Gear jacket.  It has an inside vest pocket where I keep the eyeglass hard case.  Either my regular glasses or my sunglasses go in that.

This isn't a storage solution, but I know that a lot of riders with glasses who wear full-face helmets get a modular helmet so it can be put on like a 3/4 helmet and then flip it down to make it a full-face.

I think he's talking more about a quick/temporary place to set them on the bike rather than a safe storage place to keep them when not in use.  At least that's the way I read it.

This is made for cell phones, but could possibly be used by sticking one of the 'ear stems(?)' into the hole that you would use for the cell phone clip.

I think both of those are great solutions!  I've never seen an eyeglass pin before, or at least if I have I didn't know that's what it was.

Two of my friends have these helmets both have glasses, they both have to take there glasses off before putting there helmet on.

My solution is a magnetic tankbag, and I never buy shirts without a pocket to carry reading glasses. It only takes two seconds to move the bag between bikes. I have never used an eyeglass case. Taking glasses in and out of it would drive me nuts.

+1 - magnetic tank bag - good for everything from somewhere to put glasses, a wallet, sunscreen, cell phone etc etc...never leave home without one

I have shied away from tank bags because of the potential delays when adding fuel.  Maybe some are small enough to not interfere with fueling?

Delay when adding fuel??? Are you on a race tack or something?  A magnetic tank bag is easily moved for those fueling moments....even clip on ones can be unclipped and reclipped in seconds...I have both types - a larger clip in one for touring - see avatar and a smaller magnetic one...and no both interfere with adding fuel in a time-dependent manner

No racetrack for me. 

When traveling a long way and trying to make good time, we will often pull in, fuel up, and head right back out without even pulling off our helmets.  We rarely do this twice in a row, because after 250 to 300 miles it is time to stretch.

Anyway, I don't want to be the holdup on those stops.  I will check out the small tank bags.

How about a strap that attaches to your glasses so you can just let them hang around your neck while you put your helmet on?  I realize it's not the most stylish solution, but if we're only talking about when you're riding....

I understand what you are saying Kpier but if you are riding as a group its rare to have a pump/bike and usually have to wait anyway. In any case it takes less than a minute to remove and reinstall a clip on tank bag...even less for a magnetic one.....an insignificant amount of time after riding 130 miles without stopping. Anyway I couldnt do what you do...I like to get off and stretch my legs at every fuel stop so good for you.

I was thinking about one of those granny style loose straps, not a tight fitting one - perhaps 'strap' is not the appropriate word.

I just stuff them in my helmet and then stuff my gloves in to secure it.
Or I put them in my jacket pocket until I get back on- you are talking about a quick stop, right?

Even if you're doing an iron butt ride, I can't imagine a tankbag being a showstopper.

Yup. I'd say it takes me less time to move the tank bag than it does to unlock the latch and remove the gas cap.

That's what I thought you were talking about, but that kind of strap won't work when wearing a helmet.  You have to put your glasses/shades on from the front when your helmet is on.  With a strap attached to the earpieces you can't do that.
