Geez, Now Billy Mays...
« on: June 28, 2009, 10:07:24 AM »
Just read the news report that Billy Mays (the booming voiced guy made famous by Oxi-Clean commercials) was found dead in his home.

Not a good week for celebrities!

Never liked the guy that much. Hated his commercials. But got to see another side of him on the program Pitchmen. I feel sorry for his family though. Strange how just this month we have lost 4 well know personalities.

I think we can attribute him to the coining of the phrase, "I we're not yelling, we're not selling!"

Even if he was annoying on TV, you certainly never hope that to happen.

We used to imitate him in college. Especially when we were drunk and it was 4am and there was nothing on tv.

It's too bad he had to go.  :-\

Somebody here in this forum told a story of being a bartender at an airport and serving Billy.  Drunk, he tried to leave the bar with a drink in his hand, and caused a stink when they stopped him.

I always thought he was kind of fun to watch, in an "in your face" sort of way. Never annoyed me in the least, I'll actually miss him on the tube. RIP Billy!

He didn't invent it, he only did the commercials.

Good point.  But his smiling face on the box made the process so much more fun. ;D

does anyone know how it happened?

CNN said that a piece of luggage fell from overhead, in the plane. ???

Personally, I kind of liked his way of coming across and he must have been doing pretty good bacause he was given more and more things to advertise. :) Too bad about his going.   RIP Billy.

Man, people sure are throwing around the term "celebrity" quite loosely these days.

So far it's only speculation that this incident had anything to do with his death.  It was the only thing anyone could think of that happened.

I heard that too. I suppose maybe internal brain bleeding. I suppose the news will get some condensed report on it soon though. Who knows, could have been a freak coronary too I suppose.
