Uhg.

The big, bad motorcycle mechanic in me has been undone by the common bicycle.

The nut and bolt that holds the handlebars on my bicycle are in a rough state. The nut turns and turns and turns, but just won't un-thread. I suspect that I'll need a new set, but getting those out of there is real perplexing. I think I might be at hacksaw stage, but if someone can give me some insight that might avoid it, I'd be much obliged.

If you can get a flathead screwdriver between the nut and whatever it's squeezing up against, putting some pressure on it that way might help it grab whatever threads are left on the bolt. If not, you can always try a nut splitter, a dremel, or a hacksaw.
