Refresh stock front suspension or replace with modern?
« on: July 02, 2009, 07:44:10 AM »
I've got a deal lined up for a complete front end off a 2003 triumph daytona (there would be some fitment issues but after seeing what funjimmy did, I think it seems like a fairly simple fix) for $250.  Front end is complete (clipons, triples, forks, wheel, brakes, controls, etc).

So here's my question.  For $250 could I "refresh" my stock suspension enough to make it handle more like a modern sport bike (adjustibility, etc)?  Or am I better off fitting the modern front end?  As a side note the 03 daytona front forks are not inverted so it will retain the stock look of my 550 (although I am going for the cafe look).

What's included for $250?

I just read a post here somewhere where relacing both hubs to stainless spokes was $275 (I don't know if that included new rims either, doubtful)
That's why I went the route you're considering.  Modern forks with a better design, modern brakes, modern cast wheels/tubless tires/good tire selection.

For a buy in of $250 it's a very good start.

I understand some Kawasaki triple trees from the same era were identical but with different fork offsets, I may be able to look into that if you need to know.

thanks for the reply Alan.  For $250 the entire front end is included, pretty much soup to nuts.
