I've always liked ghost towns, and I found a list of all the abandoned towns in the U.S. while poking around wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ghost_towns_in_the_United_States
very cool

I thought it would be cool if people from the forum rode out to some of them, took some pictures, and posted them here.

also, I've had too much coffee today.

I'd take pics of the buildings anyways.
abandoned things are really cool, It's like time stopped right there in front of you.

there's an abandoned/burned down shop down the road from where I live.
if I had a camera I'd take pics.
the site used to be a crime scene.
the story I got was from the late 70's
The husband owned this shop out in the woods behind his 2 nailed together single wides, (still there) he was cheating on his wife with some girl.
His wife found them in the shop doing the deed. So she burned down the shop with them still in it, but they got out.
Then they got in this white 74 Cadillac (which is still there) and she shot them to death inside.
The Caddy has 6 bullet holes in it and is all overgrown and stained brown inside.
here's a google maps screenshot.

when i get a new camera I'll take pics, pretty interesting piece of land.
everything I say is pure speculation and
I have no idea what I'm talking about  ._.

Lots of ghost towns in the Big Bend area of Texas.  I took a lot of pictures when I spent a few days there on my bike, but that was back in the era of film.  Lots of decrepit adobe and wood structures and no shortage of old cemeteries.  My favorite was an abandoned farm with a windmill that was still working and pumping up ground water, so it made this very lush oasis in the middle of the desert, with nobody else around.

I've been to Centralia many times over the years.  It is wierd seeing a place disappear.  When I first went, there were still quite a few residents and a few businesses - I remember a speed shop on the main corner.  Years later, there were just a few houses and a church left and all that remained of what was the business district was a municipal building.  Then the church went; the cemeteries are still there including one Russian Orthodox cemetery with many of the tombstones only in cyrillic script.  Little by little the houses that were still inhabited were abandoned and torn down until only 3 or 4 remain, inhabited by less than a dozen people.  Byrnesville, just outside of Centralia is another abandoned town - nothing much there except a few old buildings and foundations and a Virgin Mary shrine.  The sad part is that as people move out, the houses and commercial buildings are all torn down pretty quickly since the state owns the land now.

I'm sure you could if you had a good idea of where it is, but it's an enormous park with many hundreds of miles of dirt roads, and I have no idea where I was at the time.

Here's an abandoned fake town on the Rio Grande a ways out of Presidio.  It was a set for 6 or 7 movies.  Made out of OSB, chicken wire, and mud.  It is amazing it hasn't washed away as you can see where the river has run through the buildings leaving a lot of sand behind.

I remember seeing that top shot in a movie, full of Mexican outlaws, can't remember the title thought.
My favorite ghost town ride is done by a biker girl in Chernoble, she regularly rides through the deserted city and says as long as she sticks to the middle of the road her giga counter doesn't go off the scale.
Parks full of abandoned trucks and tanks and helicopters too, all glowing with radiation, laded by their pilots who all died soon after, those guys were real heros.
I'll see if I can remember the link and post it here on an edit.

OK I found it: http://www.kiddofspeed.com/chapter1.html

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!
