I picked up these shocks at a swap meet, they are from a CB900. I know they fit because the guy had to take them off of a 74 CB750 in order to sell them to me.
Thanks to the almighty search function I was able to determine the best way to remove the spring was with two stainless steel hose clamps tighten down on each side. Thanks to whoever thought that one up. Pure genius and simple.
So the question is, since I have never taken rear shocks apart, when I push down on the shaft there is some resistence from the oil but is it normal for the shaft to stay down after you release it? As in this pic.
I don't want to spend numerous hours refurbishing these if they are blown.
