Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I'm Chris From Indianapolis (a.k.a. IndyFour). I just picked up a 1974 CB550K last week. This is my first bike....well, kind of. I had what I guess you could call a Dirt Bike when I was a teenager, but just recently got into motorcycles as an adult. My grandpa rode motorcycles his whole life, owning Indians, Harleys, and then finally Hondas....so I have always been drawn to them.
Anyway, here she is. When I picked her up, she had a big black, ugly fairing on the front and a big black box mounted on the back fender. That came off the night I trailered it home. Unfortunately, the headlight (not the bucket) was missing and the original turn signals were gone because of the fairing, so I've been scouring all over trying to find the parts. Just today I found the turns signals here in town and a used headlight is in the mail on its way here now thanks to eBay. Also, I have a new seat cover on order to replace the ripped one. The pipes are rusted out on the ends, so I'd like to get a nice 4to1 for it sometime soon.
Maybe someone can help me out here....I feel like the back end is sitting a bit low compared to other CBs that I've seen. The back shocks are adjustable and on their tallest setting. Not really knowing how these suspensions were originally, does it look like the bottom shock mount is moved back but could be moved to the bolt just forward of where it is now? It almost looks like there is some sort of extension added so that the shock moves back on the bike, therefore lowering it an inch or two. Like I said, I don't know anything about it, so maybe this is the way they are supposed to be??
By the way, here's a pic of it when I loaded it up to haul it home from MI to IN.....I know that fairings are useful, but this one was just ugly...
