tire - rim locks
« on: July 09, 2009, 09:12:05 AM »
Sorta (maybe) confused.  Our tires don't have rim locks, right?  Rim locks are put opposite the tire stem and a hole has to be drilled in the rim, right?  The nut and washer on the valve stem aren't a rim lock, right?  When I get new tires, should I put a rim lock on?

Whew, thanks ;D

Rim locks were installed as standard equipment on the H1, H2 and Z1 Kawasakis. They are a pain. Actually, they use 2 of them on the rear wheel only - never on the front. I have a CB750 that makes a lot more horsepower than either of the H2's or Z1's and my tire is not slipping on the rim.

I think if you were to run low tire pressure for dragstrip use, rimlocks would be good to have. Otherwise, don't worry about not having them - In this photo, you'll see the valve stem at 12 o'clock and the 2 opposing rim locks at  4:30 amd 10:30.

10-4 Gotcha.  I musta been reading something about tire changing maybe on Enduro bikes running on low psi tires and they mentioned them.  In any event, glad I don't need them.  It'll save me a coupla bucks  8) .
