Replace swing arm, cut chain, new rear brake line and it wouldn't look half bad...  use that swing arm for a bridge or something  ::)

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Looks like a lot of time, effort and money to go duh!

When you build an engine that has gobs of power, you don't want to waste it by lifting the front wheel off the ground.  So:

I'd bet my last dime that that Gixxer has never seen the track! It wasn't made for drag racing in fact it is quite the opposite. It was made for standing beside at the local coffee shop or 7-11 and trying to attract wayward girls who are trying to piss off their parents!

The only drag it MAY see is the main drag going very slowly so everyone will look at the rider.

it has a salvage title. it was wrecked not just "dropped" it might be a problem to register, at least here in South Carolina. other than the exhaust the motor is stone, bone stock, not even a k+n filter or programmer.

Stock that bike will do low 11's maybe high 10's....I doubt the swingarm would buy it much of a reduction.

My friend can't open his R6 up all the way until 100. Being able to give it more or even full throttle before then would be a huge help. Of course, giving it too much throttle in second gear creates enough G-forces that the world gets a bit fuzzy for him, but that's part of the run, right?

Second, I'm not sure of what numbers to believe.  SportBike did articles on both those bikes and came up with different figures for HP and weight for the R1.  It would be my guess that the 180 figure is measured at the crank.  Usually, magazines do a Dyno run to get their own numbers, so I would believe their comparison. They came up with 409.1 lbs, at 100 HP for the R6, while the R1 was 476 lbs, and 146.08 HP. Certainly enough to go against my earlier statement, but not by as much as you would have us believe.  Your R6 figures do not change that much, but the R1 drops to 3.26 lbs for each pony to motivate.

It does amaze me sometimes how much HP a transmission sucks up.

I've seen 600s eat those Millwaukee Twins alive! The only thing that moved faster than the R6 waas the guy betting on the Harley. Damn magician dissapeared! :D

Ah, it's entirely possible that I mixed together crank/wheel horsepower numbers as it seems that manufacturers don't like publishing horsepower numbers much anymore. The weights were directly off of Yamaha's website.

Do you know of a manufacturer whose 600cc bike has a better power to weight ratio than its 1000cc bike?

Thanks for the link. In all of the big four (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki), the 600cc bikes run roughly mid-10s and the liter bikes run high nines. Or at least that was the case in '05/'06 when those numbers are from.

The extended swingarm has become a fad. It's quite sad actually.

I used to run a 95 GSXR750 with a long extended arm at the track. Then ride home afterwards. A few years ago guys used to ask me what my times were while sitting at stop lights or at a cruise nights.

Now they just want to know why it doesn't have chrome or a million dollar paint job. I tell them that all that paint adds weight.

No one seems to get it. :'(
