Judging intrest level for wire harness business

A freind and I need to make NEW harnesses for a few bikes. We are wondering if it would be worth making a small harness shop in the process. To start, we plan on doing a CB350 twin, a CL360 twin and a CB550.

Just wondering how many people are in need of harnesses?

Sounds like a great idea.  The CB750 would most likely be the biggest market, so I'd think it would be a good one to include in the trial run. :)

problem with that is others already offer harnesses for the 750. And they're cheap at $75 or so. To top it off we don't have one to use as a template.

I think the smaller bikes would be a good start.

I would be interested in a CB550 harness.
What upgrades are you considering doing to the stock configuration?

Haven't considered too much for "upgrading" as it may require more extensive changes than some want. For example: tinned wire is a definate plus and is worth the added expense as it will last much longer than bare copper. Waterproof connectors would also be a huge improvement for life of the harness, but that would require matching all the turn signals and bar harness as well as the engine wiring.

It could get easy to go way overboard and out price the application. ::)
I'd prefer to just build with the tinned wire and keep the OEM connectors. It seems a good trade off between cost and universal fit.

I'm going to have to put this off for a while. I gust got my a$$ ripped by the DOT inspector for my 350 cafe project. He made me quite the to-do list before coming back!

He wants: Quiet pipes, Front fender, Turn signals, high beam indicator, turn indicator, and a revamped rear brake light switch.

Turn signals and indicators just gripe me! I was trying to keep it as clean as possible for the wiring. I can buy the fender argument,but it sucks. The silencers are going to be pricey I'm afraid. And the brake switch issue is a matter of opinion. Unfortunately it's his that counts.

Time to start looking for more parts!
