Topic: new bike.. need some help.

i just picked up a 1984 nighthawk 650. are there any websites for the dohc vintage hondas? if not.. just a few questions.

-im interested in converting it from shaft to chain drive. anyone know if the cb650 chian output would work?
-also, i already did the exhaust mod (drilled the baffles). i want to get a 4 into 1 system but all i can find is a MAC system. i have a mac system on my 82' sabre and i really dont like the quality of thier products. do i have any other options?
-also, i read about people having overheating issues with pod filters on the sohc.. im assuming the outcome would be the same on a dohc. right? so i guess drilling the airbox and sticking a k&n filter is probably the safest option? wheres a good place to get a k&n and jet kits for these bikes?
-also, does anyone know of any internal modifications for the dohc? camshaft, pistons, headporting etc..
-lastone, any other options for stiffer suspension other than progrssive. maybe a a way to mount inverted forks or something?

OK I'll start...

Chain/shaft conversion. Extremely hard to do. If there isn't someone making kits already... be prepared to spend some $$.

Used to be you could by the MAC header pipes and use a generic collector and your own muffler. Preferrably welded together.

You can use pods on a DOHC but depending on how and where you ride overheating might be an issue. If you like you can get a head temp sensor and a temp gauge.

I sell the K&N stock replacement filters or the pods so... whatever you decide I'll hook you up.

Jet kits are great if they are offered for it. If not putting one together can be a little difficult but is very doable. Just be ready to make a lot of adjustments. (here's where no airbox comes in handy)

You can do a modern front end swap but they usually entail having the new front end stem pressed out and a new one made. By far the easiest way I have found.

As for rear suspension there are a few options other than progressive but none as adjustable/reliable for the price.

I'll have to do some checking on the engine pieces.... maybe APE has a few bits? I'm not sure.

i guess the chain conversion will have to be put on hold for a little while.

i gave mac a call and you were right the will just send me the header pipes.. so i got a set ordered and i think im gonna go with a supertrapp slip on. then fab up some mounting brackets.

I'll definently come through you for the airfilter.. but i just ran into a problem last night while i was tearing apart my carbs. see my other thread in this section.

i think im gonna just end up going for prograssive suspension goodies for now.

also i checked APE website for cams i i think they do have availible cams for the DOHC heads. does anyone know a good head porter for DOHC hondas? how about a company that makes pistons? i checked the stardard places and i could find much in that department.

also are there any good forums for the DOHC hondas?
