CB650 Electronic Ignition swap into a 69-78 CB750 SOHC
« on: July 14, 2009, 02:47:01 PM »
I've been told that a 1979 CB650 electronic ignition can be installed into a 69-78 SOHC CB750. Is this true and has anyone here ever done it. Please help I own and ride a 74model CB750 and love the bike but want to upgrade the ignition and don't have the funds for an aftermarket set up.

I can't answer your question but am looking forward to the answer as I've wondered the same thing with the next generation 750's electronic ignition.

I'm thinking that it should be doable as long as the next generation of honda electronic ignition is similar to the aftermarket setups you can buy. You might have to make up an adjustable bracket for the pick up so that you could time it properly but as long as the piece that sits on the crankshaft is the same size it shouldn't be a hard swap.

I e-mailed Carpy about this and he says it can be done, but didn't go into detail about it. I would love to talk to someone who's done it.
