Topic: Intermittant starter

A few weeks ago I sorted out the wiring on the ol' k3 750. the starter worked for two days then didn't for a few days  and now it's working. The bike always kick starts on the first or second kick.
Any ideas?

It could be that the starter solenoid is sticky or the connection from the start button to the solenoid is intermittent. Check for voltage along the feed wire when the starter does not operate. If that is OK and you can't hear the solenoid click then service the solenoid. If you do hear it click, then maybe the carbon brushes in the starter need renewing.

My old Gs1000 (no kick start) would do that.  Turned out to be goober in the starter button housing.  All it needed was a good cleaning.

I found that if you are carful, you can strip the starter relay, and clean the copper components, if they are badly pitted you arn't getting a good connection. In the past I have removed the contact bar and put it in upside down, and rotated the contact posted 180 degrees. Since all the bits are symetrical it's like have a new switch. You'll see what I mean as soon as you remove the black cap.
