73 cb500k project
« on: July 23, 2009, 04:56:02 PM »
I bought this cb500 with the intentions of making it into a cafe racer. I don't have the money to do what I want right now but the plan is to ride it for now and tear it down this winter to start adding cafe mods. I bought it with a horrible huge fairing on the front and it even came with saddle bags haha. The first thing I did was remove the fairing and do a lot of cleaning. It runs great, I did take the carbs off and clean them. I ended up painting the tank and the one side cover I do have with some duplicolor gun metal metallic. I still need to find a right side cover for it. It had open headers that I replaced with some aftermarket 4 into 2 exhaust. I had to rebuild the front brake caliper. I replaced the rear wheel with one from a cb550 with a newer tire I had lying around. The rear shocks were blown and it made for a pretty harsh ride, I replaced them with some off my cm400. I swapped out the bars for some with a lower rise. The speedo didnt work so i just threw a cb450 one on I had. It still needs a lot of work, next I will replace the front tire and the huge rear taillight with a smaller unit. I'm thinking of shaving the seat so its level all the way across and put a new cover on it. Here are some pics of the bike so far. Let me know what you think.

Winter to do list:
-cafe tail section
-rearsets
-clipons

unfortunately it looks like I'm going to have to sell the bike, my house takes priority right now and I need the money. If I installed some turn signals and cleaned it up some more what would be a good asking price? Thanks

That's too  bad about having to sell it but you gotta do what you gotta do. I'm not going to be of any help on coming up with a price....sorry about that.... why am I typing this then? Well it's cuz I have a basket case 73 CB500 and I gravitate to posts with the same bike.
That bike is in way better shape than mine (but I got mine for $0), good luck man.

thanks. Yeah I hate to get rid of it. It was fun to cleaning it up and riding it this summer though.
