Route 66 suggestions/advise
« on: July 24, 2009, 08:54:08 AM »
My work has graciously allowed me to travel on a business trip via my bike again this year. I am close to Memphis and the conference is in Colorado Springs. I am taking a couple of extra days this year for the trip there so I can ride part of the way on the old Route 66. I am planning on going up to Springfield, MO and taking 66 down to Albuquerque, NM then head north to Colorado Springs.

For those that have ridden it, is the route difficult to follow or am I going to be able to enjoy the ride without constantly checking a map? I've read a number of items on the internet that say the route is hard to find/unmarked throughout the area I'm planning on riding.

Also, I've got 2 days of riding spread across 3 days to get from Springfield to Albuquerque. I'm leaving on Wed. and should reach Springfield by noon. Friday I have about 6 hrs to go from Albuquerque to Colorado Springs. That leaves a little over 29 hrs of daylight for the Route 66 part. Is this going to be enough or am I kidding myself? I can handle the time in the saddle (rode 14 hours in one day on one trip). I just don't want to speed through the whole way and not enjoy the ride.

Any feedback/input would be greatly appreciated. I leave next week and am getting all my ducks in a row. Thanks.
