Last Saturday Rally - report and photos -from OZ
« on: July 29, 2009, 05:03:40 AM »
Well here goes,

Got a call from a mate who just purchased a used "hardly", and invited me to
attend a nice little rally which was held last saturday 25th September.

Full name of the organisation is:
"Macquarie Towns Motorcycle Restoration and Preservation Club"

I decided I wanted some time out on Saturday and got permission form duly signed from the wife,
and arose at about 7:00am and left home about 8:00am to arrive at Windsor about 8:30am.

Decided I would be buying some thicker gloves as the extremities were getting painful approaching Windsor.
Going to ALDI tomorrow to check their latest stuff out.
My mother in laws knitted balaclava was wonderful, and kept my ears warm. (Knitting pattern provided on request)
Looks like an old post box - but it's warm..
Froze my little brass monkeys all the way to Windsor enjoying the extremely crisp and invigorating
ride. Lots of Fog in patches from Northern Road across to Blacktown Road.
Stopped to top up for Petrol - and arrived, registered & paid for rally & lunch ($30), met my mate, and at 9:20 were on our way.

Will try and scan an image of the map we used for the route if anyone is interested.

Headed out and with marshals at all turning points we had a very pleasant ride to the Sackville Ferry, non eventful - and some lovely scenery along the way (I didn't stop for happy snaps) - the first of two ferry crossings for the day..
there were approximately 130-150 bikes of all various shapes and sizes and many different age groups represented.

Having to do a few trips the ferry took about 30 bikes per trip- and takes about 5 minutes from side to side (cost is free)..
Continued on until the second ferry crossing (Portland Ferry) - some great little twisties and plenty of tighter corners along the way... one corner had a beautiful amount of sand right in the middle of it - and everyone had some fun through here.
I was lucky and being the ultimate rider nearly dropped my CX, but my dirt riding skills held well haha and the left leg was down and skidding around the corner...(nearly filled the trousers)... but lived to tell the tale..

The second ferry had 20 lifejackets so could only take 20 bikes at a time -this slowed things a lot, but morning tea was 200 yards up the hill so not too much hassle...

Lovely cup of tea and coffee with some bikkies - a bit of BS with all the other riders, and off we went to Colo Vale for lunch - put on some lighter gloves and removed the sloppy joe from under the Jacket - a bit faster now as we got on the Putty Road, and everyone seemed to want to get to lunch first..

Higher speed limits and some more agressive riding from nearly everyone...but I must say safe riding by most riding to their own limits and conditions...and enjoying the ride as well  - I only got passed by some guy on a Ducati, and I could not get near him for pace or cornering - so bid him a safe journey..the CX sounds great with a lovely rumble as you back off - a tiny hint of some popping from one cylinder on deceleration, so I think an exhaust leak is something I have to look for, as well as a slight surging from 80-90kmh... Temp never got above normal all day and hovered just under the lower limit nearly all day..
Might even invest in a new set of plugs... due for an oil and air filter change this weekend.

Arrived at Colo Heights Fire Station/Community Hall... and all bikes were parked in their respective categories (by year of manufacture)... We then got to pick which bike by category we thought were the best displayed on the day. Then an overall vote for Best Jap bike, Best British etc..

Had a great lunch of Pumpkin soup, roast Pork and vegies, Gravy, can of drink, desert, and coffee - nearly had to have an afternoon nap in the sun to digest it all...

Had lots of discussions with some very interesting people who were only too willing to tell you about their bikes, and their history....some amazingly knowledegable about bikes in general... some just #$%*s...who knew everything...

I'm currently loading up about 50 photos on photobucket and hope I can get them linked here for you all to have a look at.. I have about a dozen more and will try and link them as well..

Overall a great day and well worth the $30....and I got a free pin and handed out several CX500 cars to people who were intersted in the Cx - might even see some of them pop up on here...

cheers.

thanks guys, that was only a very small selection of what was there. I didn't have enough time to take a photo of everything.

Wow, thanks for sharing!
