Not bad, exactly one hour from frustration to exuberance.  :D

Same thing happened to me mate, I thought all me valves were chattering and I was in for big repairs, amazing what tricks our minds play on us. ;)
Anyhow now you have a really big question for yourself, now it runs better do you sell it and move onto the 400 you were looking at or forge ahead and cure the rest of the 650?

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

as of now i have no choice but to keep the 650 i laid it down today after i went to see a few friends i dont know what happened to it right now but im ok just a sore right knee and arm so im just gonna chill for a while and dwell on the fact of having a motorcycle right now

Geez man, sorry to hear that! Glad you came out of it with relatively minimal damage. No matter how you look at it riding a motorcycle is dangerous and we all have to decide if we can live with that level of danger or not. Me, I'm resigned to the fact that I will likely get in a wreck some day, which is why I ALWAYS were all my gear. I can't necissarily control fate, but I can sure try and mitigate some of the damage by wearing the correct gear. (stepping down from soap box)

What got damaged on the bike? I'm sure someone can help you get some replacement parts for cheap. I don't know if they will fit, but I have a bunch of parts from the 1980 650 custom parts bike. This is of course assuming you decide to continue on  :)

Either way, glad you are ok!

thats funny. yeha hush you were my god then you let me get hurt what the hell man. and i know that i need new right side turn signals and it wouldnt hurt to get a new right side cover now my right side foot rest stoped alot of the damage scratched up my small exhaust shield but other than that i dont know it is rideable but now im gonna be looking at getting some new forks if it feels like they are messed up and then im gonna look at the handlebars and replace them if they are tweeked in any way but i will check with you manjisann and see if you have the parts i need

Sorry to hear you laid it down, glad to hear you are ok.

remember the '79 has a TON uf unique parts to that year (in the US) ONLY.
Turn signals being one of those.
I MIGHT have a few turn signals that are useable.
I'll check and let you know.
As for a side cover, that too is unique on the '79.... and sorry I don't have a spare one....
In fact I have somehow misplaced my right one in the garage/house lately.

Sorry to hear about the bike being down. I was reading about your saga with the valves, and for future reference, You can get #1 intake and exhaust valves adjusted, only to find out that #2 exhaust is too tight on the cam. You will need to turn the crank 360* and start over with the #1 cylinder valves.

soos there is actually a salvage yard that sells the exact same signals that i need for 23 a piece and if they dont have them they will order them for you and no shipping costs wich is pretty good i think the signals brand is Bike Master

A few parts were also used on a few of the the DOHC bikes, turn signals included. ;)

well guys im somewhat reviving my project thread. i added some clubman handle bars on to the bike tuesday and love riding it now. the only problem i have is my wrists are a tiny bit sore after a ride but then i think, i have the old seat pan and foam. i was gonna try and shave down the foam and recover it to make it my own custom seat. i also added a new choke cable to the bike wich doesnt exactly fit in the perch on the top fork clamp but it works fine and is good where it is. later today im going to get out for another ride and take pictures of the bike, so finall people can see what a bad ass 1979 cb650 looks like.

The ones on my '79 I am restoring to stock are bent..... after tipping the bike over......

As for the wrists hurting, try going faster so the air pressure lifts a little pressure off your wrists.....
Try 70+mph :)
Worked for me with the Z-bars I ran with for a while.

i do actually wanna get a tank from a salvage yard and paint that one and keep my original tank original. i want to paint it a pearl white and gold color scheme exactly like how the early cb750 tanks were painted except the black would be gold and the whatever other color would be pearl white

the clubmans are really nice i love 'e, and all i reall gotta to to fill up the brake fluid is turn it all the way to the left and it is pretty level

ok guys i just went through all my old records of my bike and found some interesting stuff but first things first i am the 4th owner i found papers that are from the past three owners including the original recpiet and the honda riders card along with the credit card recpiet








apparently my bike only cost 2250.68 back in 1979


the original honda owners card with the first owners name on it. atleast i know who bought it first
