here are the latest pics of 79 CR(cafe racer)650
If you notice carbs they are 75 CB750 carbs they work great. I M waiting on the decals for the bike,then she will be on road.

Did the 75 carbs just mount right up? I have a 79 650 and the carb kits are hard to find and cost 39.95 each!! If the 750 carbs will work, I may just swap em out.

Great looking bike BTW.

Yes they mounted right up. Had to bend return cable bracket and I M not using the return cable. You use the 75 throttle cable. You can use carbs up to 76, not beyond. I hope I am not breaking any rules but here is a link to where I found the 650 carb info.

The 4th posting is filled with great info. The reason for swap is, while removing carbs for cleaning I broke the plastic choke bracket. Can not be repaired needed choke found that posting rest is history.

I don't believe you are breaking any rules by posting that, it's useful info and that is what this place is all about.

Kit will be happy to hear about that as I believe she had the same misfortune.

thanks for the carb info. I am buying a set of carbs from a 75 750. Besides the airbox, are there any other modifications? What kind of jetting did you have to use? This is going on an otherwise stock engine.

As for the air box I do not know if you have to do any mods or not, just had the cool air filter had never used, so I did. Carbs have stock jetting now. Will do some testing getting ready to do some exaust mods. Will keep everyone know of any updates

good info. thanks. I knew that Soos had gone with the Ninja carbs from other threads here. It sounds like he really likes them.

Um yeah I tried to "help" put Kit's carbs back in and snapped the unobtainium plastic piece off.

We robbed a spare from our other '80 650 that we are about to start working on but we are looking to go with different carbs on that bike anyway. We are going to do an experiment with some Suzuki carbs with mlinder and paulages help. (and donation of carbs

) We'll post what we find. good luck!!!

I like it, not sure if I would go with those mirrors but hey it's rider preference and whatever works for you eh.
Ever noticed how a dirty or unpainted main stand detracts from the whole bike?

I think I would use those mirrors if it were my daily rider. I am sure he has plans for the center stand..

The mirrors are gone and bar ends are in place first set arrived broke and had to have some to get inspected. Replacments arrived yesterday and installed. Looks much better.

If you don't mind me asking, what is that air filter/box from? I have cracked intake boots and this looks nice and less of a headache then finding pliable boots.

The air pods look good too.

Check out the carb FAQ some time.
It has measurements of various replacement carbs i've tried.
length, height, bore, etc.... and spacing.

I've even got a trick set of carb isolators I have found that allow adaption of MANY carbs to my '79 head. they have a offset(not angled, but offset) to the openings.
Just enough I can adapt even the CV cb650 carbs to a non-CV head.
So far they are still airtight.(10,000+ miles later)

speaking of different carbs...i'm off to E-bay to find cheap carbs.....

I just mounted the 750 carbs to my 79 and it took some muscling. I think they will work though. Thanks again for the tip. I will let you know what happens when i try to start it.

New carb isolator boots help a LOT.

But being that the motor side of the 750 carbs are like 1 or 2mm bigger than the stocker cb650 carbs, they are VERY airtight with your old cb650 carb isolators.
That is if you don't split them or start new cracks or deepen existing ones in the process of installing the 750 carbs.

I have a post on these Kawasaki 600 carbs I am using and some info regarding the carb isolators.
Not only cheap($20-$30 a set from E-bay) fairly pliable, but they have a offset jog to them allowing mis-alignment of carb to head by quite a bit.
I can fit the stock cb650 CV carbs to the earlier non-CV cb650 head without too much fuss.

In time (with the heating and cooling cycles of the motor) your old carb isolators will form to fit the 750 carbs making removal and instillation easier in the future.
