  • I REALLY? hate black rims.
I have a mate who is big into VW and old Hondas.
He has split screen Beetle and camper van.
Last week, he picked up a 60s lightweight caravan (trailer home) to pull behind his camper for £60 :o :o :o  His son is getting a bit to old to be sleeping in the camper with mum and dad ;D ;D ;D

Your post stated split screen beetle, I thought you were talking about the split rear window bug.  ;D
Yea, the early busses are cool but i don't like the gear reduction boxes on the axles, makes it hop like a bunny rabbit !  ;D   Oh i hope Moto Bunny didn't hear that !!   :o  ;D  ;D

Yes, it was the rear windows in the bug that were in 2 peices.
The early front screen was flat and then had a slight curved one fitted. :-[

So VW wise I have owned, in order:

  • 1973 Super Beetle - Dandelion Yellow
  • 1978 Rabbit - Champagne Edition (metallic light green)
  • 1973 Van (with Westy interior and hot rodded engine - one of the fastest vans you have seen with original motor. . he he he)
  • 1978 Westfalia
  • 1989 Jetta GLi 16V (still have it - a little too 'new' for my tastes, though. . .lol)

I did all my own work on every one   ;D    (although I did seek some help from time to time, from Dad and his mechanic friends - a most valuable resource . . lol)
I have to say though that the Jetta is a little too 'high tech' for me with fuel injection and all that. . . might have to trade it for a bug or van!

While we are on the subject of covers, the biggest mistake i made about 3 years ago was i had the opportunity to buy a clutch cover, points cover, and a cam cover in magnesium !  $ 750.00 for all . Where these used on the factory CR750'S ?  What would they be worth now ?

Does anybody know ?

The originals were 1 piece, pretty scarce, this one looks a bit made up.

No tach..no problem on a lot of bikes, beside is an e-tach not easy to set up 2day?

The finned cover was for a smoother matching look, not performance. The originals had the fins slightly rounded i believe, looked a bit softer... would love to own one..

 What is a Vdub.... ???

There was a racing VW club at the salt..

VW = VDUB   Yea i know a few of those members. The oldest VW club is the DER KLEINER PANZERS. Members cars have to be street driven, and have to run at least 12 's in the quarter mile. Also they have to be complete and very nice !
Here's thier website......http://www.dkpcarclub.com/

Here's a picture that a friend of mine took at Nicks Burgers. Alot of badass cars !

last bug i had was a 65, autocraft trans and engine cases, autocraft heads too. 2500, turbo from a 300zx on a manifold i built, predator carb and a bananna pipe on the exhaust side of the turbo. best of 9.89 on dot approved tires and CAM2. I've been trying to find an affordable "fixer-upper bug for about 5 years now. as long as it hasnt been hit hard enough to bend anything, i can do any rust repair. i learned motor building when i worked for ken fisher back in the early-mid 90's
