While at the "Busted Knuckle"  I headed into one of the restrooms. As I came in an old dude came busting out of a stall yelling and screaming "Who the F8ck just kicked the door on my stall" ............ "You can't let an old man take a dump in peace?"  Some kid 21-28yrs old says not me.

Old dude GOES OFF!!!!!!!  He says "That's the voice I heard when you kicked the door!"

There are 20+biker guys in this washroom, and not one of us moves. It's as if time stood still. He goes off on this kid....."Do you have any idea who I am?"  Without me you wouldn't even be here drunk pissing in that urinal!  He says "Im one of the last 2 living members of the "Jackpine Gypsies" that started this Sturgis Ralley back in 1938!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He berates this kid for a few more minutes and then turns as though he is going to leave. No one in the restroom has moved.......he turns back again and tares another strip off this kid, no one moves..........After he left I moved up to a urinal and said loud enough for every one to hear " An apology would have gone a long way to make that right" ....to the applause of everyone in the room" ;)

When I left I spoke to one of the bouncers and found out it was indeed one of the founding members of the original "Jackpine Gypsies" from 1937. It was his 84th Birthday that night.

Photos to follow.

you're gonna post pics of the washroom and "incident" Derek??

I think we'd all rather see more of the girls but I guess this IS your thread... ;)

Sorry to bore you with a bit of history ::)

Here is Ed Spilker, and if you ever get a chance to meet him you are indeed lucky 8)
He has stories he can tell for days.........

This is a photo on the wall of him in 1930 ?

Here is the same bike

On to the next bar with our favorite bar tender ;D

It all started off innocently enough......

It became obvious I had lost control.......

A couple of cool bikes on my wet ride home ::)

The Day is done.  Seriously, how can you squeeze more fun stuff into one day ;D ;D ;D

are the videos showing up correctly?  Old Mac, hard to tell ??? ???

I sure wish you'd quit posting public pictures of my girlfriend in the straw hat  ;) I'll be back in 5 minutes, I have to go somewhere..............

We were actually headed to the next bartending station to set up Derek but stopped at this one for some unknown reason!!  8)  No set up needed. As soon as Derek set foot behind the bar we knew what to expect. Couldn't have worked out any better.

Today was the day for the Hill Climb Event. It was on my "Must do" list!
Tons of photos, I had a great day! ;)

I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I did taking them.

I decided to walk up the hill for some better photos. Reminder to self, take water with you when you climb a mountain and it's 100 degrees ::)

How cool is this 8)

1 second after this photo I was hit with 10,000 rpms of paddled tire rock shrapnel  :P

So I humped my ass all the way to the top for some different angles.

This was where I was standing. The line they were taking was just getting to close.

I stayed at the bottom of the hill. If you watch closely up on the hill by the tree you will see Derek in a cloud of dust. Most of the bikes were 2 strokes but there was 1 Yamaha tricked out to 1425cc and a few high performance 650 or so sized bikes.

This guy wasn't King of the Hill, just king of the dirt. The Safety Crew needed someone looking after them!

Back to the One Eyed Jack Saloon and Baptismal Booth post dunking. As I had said, Howard and I were laughing so hard I didn't get an actual video of the dunking but this was the best I could do.

Notice the stripper pole in the nike seat ??? ::)

Off to the Broken Spoke Saloon before it rains.
Just started to rain as we got there so I left my bike inside the bar with the show bikes on display.

More interesting things to look at ;D

As I mentioned earlier there was a custom bike show going on in this bar and I had the opportunity to meet Ron Finch.

The bikes were lined up in front of the stage. Here are some photos.

OH WHO IS THAT NOW :o :o 8)
That's right the owner of the bar thought my bike belonged to "Mark" The owner of the Ace Cafe in London. He was in town that week.

I explained that......... no, it was my bike and he said
"Go put you bike up with the rest of the custom builders and give this place some class"
Me beside Ron Finch build 8)

Who's the happiest guy in the bar right now?

For sure one of my Sturgis Highlights ;)

We stayed for a few hours and walked around a bit.

That's right......live band by the heated pool and hot tubs.....

Howard comparing wallet chains with one of Billy Lanes guys.

As we were leaving the bar Dave Cook..another builder with a bike on display showed up on one of his customs.  It was cool to see a guy riding out in the rain and mud on one of his builds.

So we move on to the Full Throttle saloon.
Now it rained where we were, but here it hailed. 2000 car windshields were blown out and more bike damage than you could count.

This is hail from 2 hours before we arrived, it had melted :o

Since my bike was still clean due to leaving it inside at the last bar, I decided I would ride into this bar through the insde grounds and under one of the bridges you saw earlier.

BAD DECISION!!!!  The grounds inside the bar were of course now thick MUD!
I realized within the 1st 50 ft that I was in trouble and resigned myself to dumping my bike in the mud in my attempt to make it up the hill.  I did not have long to wait.....CRASHED into the mud on the right side much to the amusement of the 2000 or so people watching.  A few guys came out and helped me get it back up and I continued on my impossible journey through the mud with the dry ground under the bridge seemingly within reach.
NOPE, dumped it again to the roar of the crowd who were no cheering me on at this point!  Again a few guys helped me get it back on the wheels again Not to be dissuaded I continued without further problems to a huge applause from the crowd.  OK so one guy kind of pushed. ;)

The aftermath ;D
One moment your in a bike show, the next you are riding what looks like a John Deer

An Epic way to end your last night in Sturgis ;)

It took all 3 of us 20-30 mins to scrape enough mud out of the front wheel with popsicle sticks to get me out of there :D

Time to go back to the house and get some sleep, we are all leaving the next day.

See Ya. Hope you enjoyed the 7th of Aug as much I did :D

Over................Oh no it's not over yet, I still need to get home ;)

08/08/09
OD Start 98804.6
OD End 98529.0   A weak 170 miles but you will see why ;)
Start: 11:30
End: 5:30

Did a route up to "Devils Tower" today and then got HIT with the storm front from HELL!
The boys were far more organized than I and headed out around 9:30

An hour or so later I was ready. Me and my old bike ready for another 1000 miles.

My kind of rest stop.

Approaching the tower..........

There are a zillion Ground Hogs at the bottom of the mountain in a field.

So cute :)   Unless they happen to be in your backyard I guess ???

It's a real nice ride up the mountain to where you can get up close with out a hike
The Devil.........Photos don't do it justice, it's worth the trip.

Lunch at the bottom of the hill.

This was my storm from hell.  Look way to the right to the blackest spot and imagine it is moving at you at 75mph,........but you don't know that :'(

When this thing hit me the black cloud was 1/4 mile away still. A HUGE gust of wind like I have never experienced hit me and my bike. I was going 40 mph and it literaly lifted me and dropped me on the other side of the Hwy. Within 5 seconds I was in what I thought was a tornado. I feared for my life and with my feet dragging the road I made it 100 yards to a tin shack where I pulled the bike in on the leeward side and held on to the building.

Are you supposed to see rain drops 10" long in a photo?

I did a short video of my experience.  All part of the fun ;D ;D ;D ;D

http://www.flickr.com/photos/24077913@N08/3831796445/#blogthis

I was so wet and out of it by that point that I decided to stop early at a town called Broadus.
Good luck finding that on a map ;D
I stopped at the 1st warm tavern to ask about accommodations in town.  I was told I could get a room right behind the bar, but I would have to go to the other end of town to another hotel to pay and get a key ::)  A beer later and a short ride and I'm back and  I have a room 8)

Enjoyed the Tavern, had some dinner, caught up on my journal and met a couple from BC who were also on a bike.

Nice sunset as the storm passed.

Travel AlertFor all wet travelers, the room had no heat........it's summer. This worked great!!!!
Left the TV on all night and the heat from the rear dried my boots and gloves 8)

Early bed, I need to make some miles the next day, and I have a lot of stuff I wanted to see.

We don't want to see no steenken PRAIRIE DOGS, we want mo' titties  ;D It's all new to me from this point onward.

Bitter sweet ending to one of the best weeks ever. Couldn't have asked to spend it with 2 better guys. Damn glad I talked you into it bro! AND, that's probably the only shot of my bike with all 3 lights working for a change  ;)

On the other hand it sure was nice to get our bikes over 60mph again and back to 85mph  :D Sure made those 475 miles home go much quicker. Only thing is I kept looking in my rear view and you were not in sight once again  :'(

I'm saving that Cuban Cristales cigar, which you so generously provided, for a special occasion to remind me of Sturgis 2009. I'll call when I fire it up! By the way, what time is it  ;)

Your comment about looking for me in your mirrors made me laugh.
I'm sure there is some truth in that ;)  It was nice for me to ride alone again as well.

I thank you again for the invitation, best week I can remember 8).
Good to know ya.

As for the cig. Keep it in a humid spot. Enjoy.  Have you had your watch on yet?
I call mine the garage watch........... I have more if you break it ;)

The next day is "Custers Last Stand"

P.S. Sorry Jerry.........No more Ta-Tas ::)  Just beautiful scenery.

OD Start: 98804.6
OD End: 99339.7
Total Klms 535   Miles 320
Packed up bike and out by 9:00am, rode to the other end of town to return key ;) Had a coffee and muffin with some other bikers and left town by 9:30. Headed East on Hwy #212 up to "Big Horn". Stopped to fill my bike and stomach and then off to "Cuters Last Stand"
A very moving experience. Had not expected it to be so, but it was very interesting to be there.

Artist rendering. Same hills in photo below this one.

On my way back down the hill.

Headed North on #212 to "Billings MT" and then North on #3. I'm basically doing Montana from SE corner to NW corner to get to "Glacier National Park".

Billings:

An old barn I thought needed to be photographed ;)

Look I found another cool bridge for a quick stop. When I got down there I just wanted to build a little cabin and stay ;D

I know........I/m looking a bit scruffy ;D

and I don't have a fishing rod ::)

What could be more "Montana" ;)

On Hwy 12 East now. Miles of wheat fields will make your mind wander..............

Late afternoon I saw a storm approaching and after yesterday I was taking no chances ;D

Oh yeah, someones going to get wet again ;)

I did get wet, but not to bad.
Finally made it to the "World Famous"  SPA HOT SPINGS MOTEL in Sulphur Springs"

Parked and unpacked the bike. Smoked a jay and took a walk though town.

This town has a Hot Spring.........and that motel built in the 50's is the best anyone could come up with. A very cool town, there was just a good vibe from everyone ;D

Dinner.........So I stop into this place.

Did not realize it was a real theatre, but there was a movie playing. I wanted a pizza but when I said I need some where to sit the owner said he would turn on the lights upstairs for me. I wanted to catch up on my journal so that problem solved......... Now I asked if I could have a beer?  No he said, .we don't have a license, but I could go over to the gas station up the road and bring the beer back in ??? ::)  Uh, OK....but 1st got a commitment from the theatre owner to come up have a beer with me and give me some history of the town.

So I got comfortable ;D ;D

The owner was very cool, he gave me a tour of the projection room as it would have been on the early 70's?  Sat and had a beer, and gave me some of the inside history of this Town 8)

What would a night be without 1 tavern stop.

She was a hoot. ..and I did promise to put her on "That internet thing" ;D

Back at the Motel taking advantage of the facilities :)
A bit of history here. They drain the pool and hot tub room every night. This way they are able to appease the government regulations and do not have to add ANY chemicals to the water. This is apparently the only pool of its kind in the USA!

It was agreat day of riding, plenty of stops, beautiful country, lots of memories and photos.
Bed at Midnight. Lots to see the next day ;)
