bench test a starter motor

For the life of me I cannot remember if the positive lead goes to the cable on the starter to bench test it. feelin kinda (DER) right now.  ??? :-[ :-[

mounting lug or case is ground, wire is to + terminal.  Be careful, they jerk hard occasionally.

Seriously though, I've bench-tested some by screwing them down to my workbench with some long screws and using jumper cables to a spare battery.  Lots of amps and torque in those motors so use care.
