1971 CB500 FOUR.. Black betty
« on: August 31, 2009, 09:19:44 AM »
Hey there to start off I have a 71' CB500four I paid $100 for at an auction/police impound. I brought it home and It would push start so I new everything had to be okay as far as electrical ignition and such. I had bought some nice black drag bars for it.. mocked them up and looked as if everything would fit up right. Put on the master cylinder and the hose was just a little to close but I made it work by taking off the tach and moving the speedo to a NEW center mounting position. Only problem with the bars no holes! So I cut the wires. Leaving a horn and turn signal still available  I though.... I noticed the head light wasn't coming on so I played with the wiring with a diagram of course. Now it's working though but now high beam or off selection. After checking wiring the bike has only started for me 2 times in the pass week. Power at everything, very weak to none spark at plugs. Bolt are pretty stripped on the ignition pieces and adjusters.. Thinking of a DYNA? What is optimal coils to run that? Post pictures in a while

If you don't have one yet, get an impact screwdriver:

It works wonders on getting stuck screws out.

What does your battery look like? It would probably be a good idea to just get a new one.

THE MESS

Impact driver is a must. Also, what I used when the screw was so chewed up that there was no grip at all, was a small chisel and a small hammer. Tap the screw head at an angle. I learned that the hard way.

Me too! My only problem is my brother will eventually get it (when I can save up and find a nice used 03 ZX7R) and he doesn't want me to do too much to take it from what it is now
